Seeing a Performance vs Seeing a "Live" Band

RE Dream Theater, it's not something I can listen to a ton. The singer drives me up a wall but I've always loved instrumentals and plenty of 'playing' by great musicians. It's like...chocolate or something. A little is great but a lot is not good.

I listen to so many genres that the notion of "It's not rock and roll" is not a bad one for me. Often very refreshing.

If I'm in a circle pit, I'm not going to notice if you miss a note in the solo. Most people listen to music to sing and dance. If you can't dance, why are you playing music? Even classical musicians sway to their melodies. If you're a statue on stage, it makes me want to hit you with my shoe and go home barefoot.
Exactly, how can you NOT move?? Be the band you want to see. Like you said, wanna see statues? Then go to a museum....

I dig when bands take liberties with their material, as long as it doesn’t get too self indulgent and they nail it.

My band strives for getting it close to how we recorded it, but we've also adjusted things along the way that have made the songs better live. I take liberty with my leads. There's things I do now that are better than the way i recorded it. Alot of my solos on our current record, I came up with in the studio right before the producer hit record. Hell, even one of them was the "let's check the levels on this mix to see if it works for you" take that ended up being a keeper. For that one all i had was the first 3 notes and then i just l flowed on the rest of it. I coulda done it over and maybe done it a little more perfect, but I didn't wanna lose the vibe. There's parts of it that I play a bit different now because I've improved on what i initially did. We are one of those bands that will refuse to play to tracks or a click. We might get a little sloppy because we are being active on stage but we'd rather have more stage energy than a sterile note for note reproduction of the record.

I like when bands sound live. I don't like perfect recreations of the album but I don't like them changing songs either. I prefer it to be a bit punk rock for lack of better word. Like a bit raw.

My band plays the songs the way they are written for the most part. No one freaks out is someone fucks up, shit happens, but we strive to sound like the song which mainly falls on me. I'm a 90-95% correct on leads and can play most any classic rock song.

We put on a show, I dress up and switch guitars. I even go nuts at practice, you play like you practice, plus the guys in the band like it when I give it everything I have.

I like this question. If it's a band I'm familiar with, I want it as close to the recording as possible because that's what I'm there for. If I'm being introduced to the band I guess it doesn't matter lol. Either way, they better be enjoying it or at least good at pretending. Nothing is worse than a band that is clearly upset to be on stage with each other.
