I sold a Two Notes live to someone at the other end of the world in Macau. It was through Reverb. The unit was 100% in working order when I sent it out in early September. He received it a few days ago and contacted me saying it doesn't power up.

The unit is apparently 100-240V and Macau uses 240V. He says he tried it with a step up/step down transformer as well which he says he uses with gear he buys from North America.

So what the hell do I do now? He has contacted Two Notes support. I don't know if there is a fuse in the thing or what. How do I go about resolving this? Do I ask him to ship it back and refund him when I get it or what? Shipping was a hell of a lot to get it there.

I don't think I will ever sell outside of North America again.

Not that it matters now, but in the future I would state "Since I can only test this with 120V, I can not guarantee that it will work in other countries" or something like that.
I usually take pictures and videos of stuff I sell. I take picutres of it and then additional pictures of the packing job, and then the condition of the box prior to shipment.

If he files a PP claim they're gonna jack your funds. Try and work with him to get it sent back if TN support doesn't come thru; document everything and stay in touch with Reverb letting them know that you're doing everything possible. They don't want a PP claim any more than you do, since they want you using their site and not jumping back to eBay.

Thanks for the good advice. I hope two notes has a solution though.

Does PayPal always side with the buyer?

Well if it worked before you shipped it, obviousy the guy blew it up somehow with his voltage converter.

Ok, sorry to derail.
I need some venture capitalists. We're going to make a paypal for musicians. Buyer pays all fees.

Dude. Fucking. ALWAYS.
I know. WTF is seller protection aside from a joke.

I hear you. No such thing. Had a guy last year try to tell me he wanted his $ back because he didn't like the guitar as much as he thought he would. He paid Gift. I told him to go fuck himself and man up and sell it if he disliked it so much.

People, man.

I like the idea of the buyer pays the fees. Often it seems that the seller will set a net price that they want before fees and the buyer will send that amount leaving the seller short. It would be nice if it listed how much you have to send in order to get xx net dollars to the seller in the first place.

I know you're joking Bill....but I really dig this and would use it. Most of the guys I know are stand up dudes just trying to sell a piece of gear to try something else. The fact that PayPal gives what basically amounts to a 6 month satisfaction warranty on USED GEAR is a fuckin joke.

I rarely sell anything anymore for that reason, and usually only to someone I've seen around forums, and I always ask for references and then check em, especially if it's a guy I don't see around at least every couple days. The guys that are here since 2009 with 41 posts are never going to be buying my gear, I just won't sell to them. As sad as it sounds, the dudes that are gear crazy are my market...if you're on all the forums I am and have 3000 posts on all of em I know you're a nut for this shit just like me. I'm not worried about those guys. Random dudes on Reverb? Not unless you can show me some forum references somewhere or I know you.

It worked when you sold it. If he's fucking around with step down transformers and burnt something up, that's not your problem. I would stick with that argument. If it was me. I would empty my PP account. If he opens a dispute It will just show a negative amount until the dispute is settled.
I did that when some dirtbag did a charge back on me for $800. It showed -$800 for a few weeks, until they ultimately decided in my favor.

If he opens a dispute CALL PAYPAL. I did this and it helped explaining the situation to a real live person instead of emails.

So do they get to keep the item and get a refund?

Pretty sure Paypal asks for proof of return shipping before issuing the buyer a refund. Good luck...hope it works out for you.

Have him to send you a video clip, showing power to the source, with the unit plugged in and not powering up. I would be willing to bet his is fucking with you. Did he have any feedback on Reverb. I deal with idiot buyers all the time and elect not to sell if they don't have some history. Had a dumb fuck low balling me on an amp yesterday, and the email exchange got a little funny and nasty. Reported him to Reverb and they pulled his account. Too bad there's shady shit stains you have to deal with.

I got burned many years ago selling stuff to overseas folks. Never again. And never, ever, ever sell anything to anybody in Indonesia. Ever.
