Put an e609 on one speaker and put a SM57 a bit off axis on another speaker and you'll be on your way to getting some great recorded guitar tones.

I've got one of the original (black) ones that sounds really good. Lots of bottom end and low mids which makes it a nice counterpart to a 57.

Ugly, they're definitely ugly.

Since your are the first to say a negative can you give more more info. I already have a SM 58 and a Cad Trion 7000, thought this one would make a nice addition. ??

I think he means ugly looking...

I have quite a few mics and more than one of each (57, i5, e609s, Trion 7000, 421, ATM650 and more)

My two cents... consider an ATM650 before you buy the 609S.

If you had to pick 2 of that list of yours? :)

I don't do any recording, but I really like how the E609 sounds live through the PA. I play wireless, and I can stand on stage and hear my amp, then walk out front and it sounds just like my amp, and that's what I want out of a mic.

For starters, they have a huge ugly head, similar to that of ET. Also, no pretty colors, just bland old blah blah blah. And finally, that giant ugly head sits atop a tiny little body. It's totally out of proportion.

I'm assuming you're talking about the E609 Silver. I know people get great results with that mic, but I've bought it 2x and returned it each time.

Next weekend, we're playing a bike rally outside, and I'm going use two mics, the 57 and the 609, and then go out front, and have the sound guy turn one one, then the other, then both to see which I like better. Should be a fun experiment if we have time.

I find that both the 609 and Audix i5 are very finicky with preamps. Lower cost preamps tend to make them sound very grainy and harsh... actually, I find the same thing with the MD421 for high gain guitars.

I'm constantly rotating mics but the ATM650 is up there. the e609S is usually not. It just depends on what I'm after at the time. For brighter the i5 over the 57. but the 57's hard to beat and I almost always dual mic. For the last several months it's been a Trion7000 along with a 57 or ATM650.

Yeah... I can believe that. I hear the same thing about the SM57. But at this point, I got a decent mic pre and it's still sounds like runny poo... LOL! :D
