I am looking for a mic to go with my SM57B and my CAD Trion 7000 Ribbon Mic for micing guitar with. Does the e906 compliment the 57B much? The Ribbon mic is my room mic, I want another close up mic to blend, options?

I would personally look into the Sennhieser 421. It's kind of an industry standard dynamic mic... Use it on guitar, drums, bass, etc. A real awesome sounding workhorse!

that saying I never tried a e906..

I had an e609 silver and thought it paled in comparison to a 57 on my guitar cabs

I agree. I think the 421 has more bite then the 906 or 609. I personally found them to be a bit too round for my taste, harder to get that bite for certain stuff, decent for others, but I didn't like it on its own. maybe paired with another mic. I personally like the pr30 better for another cheaper good dynamic.

I have both the e906 and 421. I honestly hate both of them, with the most hate going towards the 421. Its boomy and scooped sounding to me...Save your money for a Royer 121. YES, they are stupidly expensive but WELL worth it. Audix I5 is a better choice for a low cost dynamic.

I own a 57 and Audix i5. I find that the 57 has a 'sweet spot' that needs to be tuned in, but when you get there everything sounds better. The Audix i5 is a grab and go mic with lots of good sounds capable, but I can't really 'dial it in'. Meaning I move it and move it and am never truly 100% satisfied with the product.

the audix to me is a good mic, a little wider sounding then the 57, but it doesn't capture distortion as good imo, it is a bit fuzzy and not as defined in comparison to the 57. I would take a PR30 over both.

I far prefer the 906 to the 609. The mic seems more neutral to me though the 421 is better than both.

Brandon at RecordingReview.com made side by side comparisons of distorted guitar tracks on the site. I don't think it's open to the public though. From what I've heard the Cascade Fathead II sounded much better than all the rest with 57 close behind. The Royer and 7B was included as well.

I've never tried the 906 but, I swear by the 609......yes, I prefer it to the 57, by a good bit.

I agree about the 421 but to me that's the point of why it mixes so well with a 57. It gives you the body and girth that the 57 lacks while the 57 takes care of the grind and cut. If I'm recording dual lead lines or harmony's I'll use the 421 by itself against a harmony with the 57. Also the 5 position bass roll off on the 421 can take out the boominess if it's too much.

used the 421 all the time, even by itself and never really got muddy results. really, its all about placement and setting the amp right for any mic. If you have too much bass dialed in on your amp, guess what, the mic will pick up mud. Great thing about the 421 is that it can not only capture the bite of a distorted sound, it has the depth and fullness to it as well. Great mic on guitar cabs.

I've got an e609, e906, sm57, Trion 7000, Royer 121 and ...

The Heil PR30 paired with a Senn 421...excellent. The comment about the 421 having too my bass...well, with the 421 default setting, yes, however the 421 has an eq rig that lets you dial out the excess proximity bass. the Heil PR30 has no proximity issues. Together these mics are easy to use and easy to dial in.

Get a MD421, or better yet, stick to the two microphones you have and perfect placing them before you get another thing to throw into the equation.
