I dig my Nitro but, from all the clips of the 5150III 100 watt I've heard, I think that amp might be better for me.
Anybody ever A/B'd them?
Fucking gas!!!!!

Yup, owned them both at the same time, KT88 Nitro and a 50w 5150III. The 5150III won out and I sold the Nitro.

What do/don't you like about he Nitro that's making you think about the 5150III?

I've had two 5150III heads, a 100w head and an EVH 2x12.....sold them all and still have my Quickrod

It's all in what your ears wanna hear and how your playing translates

I like how it's more "modern" voiced than my Quickrod but the mids are weird on it. The EVH seems to have that certain "mid-honk" and levels of gain that I like.

The evh 5153 just slays I a/b it an my Mesa rev,F the A 1960 cab and the 5153 is soooooo awesome just can't bring myself to drop Mesa and in my opinion the 5153 pisses all over the MarkV

Mark V isn't exactly an amp I'd compare to a 5153. Totally different amps with totally different timbres of tone.

I've owned both and both are awesome amps, but the only thing the 5153 does better than the Mark V IMO is metal rhythm tone. The Mark V cleans are far better than the 5153, and the edge of breakup tones and low to mid gain tones are superior. Lead tones on the Mark V are also better IMO.

My need for a great metal rhythm tone is why the 5153 stayed and the Mark V didn't though. What the 5153 does do well, it does better than most other amps out there.

I'm sorry I've just grown to hate Marks lol so wording is a tad harsh but I stand by it

Wrong, nobody is buying a mark v for it's copping of Marshall like tones, whereas the 5153 blue channel does a great modded marshall tone. Plenty of guys are buying it for the blue channel only. That's the thing the amp does great for me and the reason I still have it and it does it well. Don't care for the red channel at all but I'm not a metal guy. The blue channel is where the magic is on this amp imho.

Not sure how I could be wrong as I never suggested that the Mark V does a modded Marshall tone better than the 5153. I just preferred the mid gain tones on the Mark V greatly to those of the 5153. I also love the blue channel, and use it more than the red, even for playing modern metal.

Like I said, I really like both amps and even chose to keep the EVH over a Mark V for my needs.

Not trying to argue with you I just don't agree with this statement and imho it is not the case for me but obviously subjective. I've owned both as well fwiw.

"I've owned both and both are awesome amps, but the only thing the 5153 does better than the Mark V IMO is metal rhythm tone"

Perhaps I haven't found the sweet spot yet for the lower gain sounds in the EVH. I've had my 50w for about a month so it's still pretty new to me, and I spend the majority of my time in the higher gain register. Blue channel at lower gain settings seems a bit dry compared to the modes in the Mark V's 2nd channel.

I've got a 5150 III Stealth halfstack and a Mark IIC+ Boogie halfstack that I run in stereo. One amp compliments the other, for sure. Two different beasts altogether. There is no doubt that the Boogie has better cleans, as it is just a hot-rodded Fender.

I have the 5153 Mini and matching 4x12 cab.. it slays.. I haven't tried the 100w, but from all reports they do sound a bit different on all 3 channels, but both can be modded..

The 5150III IS a Fender

5150III has more in common with a Soldano than it does a traditional Fender, which the Boogie has much more in common with (practically the same tone stack essentially, just cascaded).

I was afraid of using the Soldano comparison, but I agree completely. :D

Not surprised, considering that he played one for a while.
