Set aside your politcal differences...

Hard to believe how HUGE the WWF got in the 80s.

Ahh... Elisabeth.

I do an excellent Randy The Macho Man Savage impression and I always throw the phrases, "Elisabeth... get out of here..." and, "... wait for the Macho Man... just wait for the Macho Man, yeah..." in for good measure and authenticity.

That era was so over the top. The WWF became to the 80s what the Barnum & Bailey's Circus was to the 60s.
In hindsight it's almost unbelievable that this ever happened!

Wrestlemania III at the Silverdome.
Look at what passed for 'big screen' back then! :ROFLMAO:

I don't count anything held this century. Those are nostalgia and huge PR stunt events for the Stadiums.
Back in the 80s you had folks traveling across the country in their cars to see these things.
Most were 100% caught up in the whole spell of it all. Hard not to be!

In the 70s it took Led Zeppelin at their peak to sell this many seats in one place!

I might as well put it out there.

My '80s & '90s faves OTTOMH were:

Randy the Macho Man Savage
Brutus Beefcake
Rowdy Roddy Piper
Jesse "The Body" Ventura
Curt "Mr. Perfect" Hennig
George "The Animal" Steele
Ted Dibiase
Big John Studd
Bobby Heenan
Don Muraco
Terry Funk
Jake "The Snake" Roberts
Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart
Jimmy Hart
Triple H
Ric Flair
Bill Goldberg
Chris Jericho
Sid
Christian (Edge's brother)
"Bad Ass" Billy Gun
King Kong Bundy
Hulk Hogan (Wasn't really into him but I think he deserves to make any list. Great entertainer.)

Mostly baddies of course; I found them more-entermataining on the whole than goodies. I'm sure I've forgotten many for the list. There've been so many successful characters that it's one of those things where you stumble upon a piece of footage and think, "How the Hell could I have forgotten about this dude?".

I had mostly zoned out by then. Watched it constantly as a kid.
Saturday morning/afternoons on the tube was cartoons, then wrestling, then creature double feature.

Probably my favorite.

Nope, didn't forget him.

Wasn't enigmatic-enough for me. His interviews didn't entertain me at all. His behaviour was too one-dimensional for my tastes.

I appreciated his intensity 'though, as anyone would.

I remember him. He was actually Italian-American.

Retired mid-'80s I reckon...

The area I grew up was a mix of French Canadian and Italian immigrants.
Bruno Sammartino was THE guy for most of the adults and kids.
Staged or not, got to the point nobody wanted to fight him.
Flat out Monster.

My grandfather was mostly native American so that probably made me dig the whole war dance thing
Jay would do just when you thought he was down and out. :ROFLMAO:

I loved Bruno Sammartino; I didn't include him in my fave list 'cause his interviews were the furthest thing from entermatainment.

He was the real deal in the ring 'though for-sure.
