I got to try them out. Man these are some really hot pickups. I had EMG's in my strat and 60 and 85. For output it puts these to shame. Seriously these pickups are flame throwers. I don't think they clean up better but I do feel like they are more like a passive in the way they feel and attack wise. The have more bass and treble then any of the EMG's I've tried as well. I thought that the clean sound was better as well. Neck pickup really impressed me. The bridge was fucking hot as all hell.
In the end I put my EMG's back in my guitar and wired it up for 18 volts. The Blackouts just have way to much output for me.

Yeah the do have alot of output.....they've kicked ass in two guitars I've used them.....in another I went back to the 81......it depends on what you want.....I just popped one in a LTD Viper that sounded to bright and twangy with an 81......the Blackout fixed that issue for the most part.....

I've been considering Blackouts, but I was worried they were too hot. I'm trying to move away from that uber hot pickup sound.

You know I liked everything about the blackouts but they were just way to hot for me. I put the Emg's in it makes them sound medium output. The 18 volts brings the EMG's seems to let them breath better.

I'm selling these nickle covered AHB-1's neck and bridge for $145.00 shipped and paypaled (just the humbuckers).

blackouts are sweet. but i prefer emgs. the blackouts have too many highs and lows. if they kept the same eq as emgs , but added the passive feel, id think otherwise.

The new EMG-X pickups I'm sure will be just like Blackouts..

Ya know, there's a Blackout model that has a variable output.

I have a set of Blackouts. But i didn't like them that much. Yes they were okay, but they just didn't have much tone to them, and yes i tried adjust my amp and EQ. But it didn't make a difference

so now i got EMGs and i love em :)

Duncan probably felt like they could market these pickups to the new metalcore generation with the even-hotter-than-your-EMGs gimmick. Perhaps they have been successful, perhaps they haven't. But both Duncan and DiMarzio lost a lot of cool factor in my eyes with these lame EMG clones.

And what kind of childish attempt at sounding "brutal" is the name "Blackouts?"
