Has anyone directly compared any of these, all other factors being equal, in the bridge position?

By Mahogany Les Paul, you mean a Les Paul with out a Maple Cap, right?

Don't know why but EVERY single Gibson V I play sounds dead. Like hit the note, very rounded with no attack, and the note drops off right away. Almost no sustain or resonance. This is about 6-7 Gibson V's, all brand new and from the past 8 years. Almost like it has ancient strings but half the time it was straight out of the box. Can't figure out why, maybe it's just "it's" sound. None of the explorers or SG's (solid mahogany, same specs) have that problem. And none of the full mahogany LP's (chambered) have that problem either.

Anyone else have this problem?

LP is the only one you can play sitting down!

I always thought the explorer was one of the most comfortable guitars to play either standing or sitting.
