This may be a dumb idea. But after reading some recent horror stories on here about amp shipping .
What if we could all take our amp to guitar center ( because there’s one relatively close to all ) . Pay them a fee to box and ship it to a buyers address . Then in return , you could pick up a bought amp
From there. With the ability to try it and make sure there’s no issues . Imagine the headach s saved!!

I don’t think that would be a very good business model for them as they would prefer you buy the gear from them directly. The benefit and beauty of Guitar Center’s used site is to buy your gear online, ship it to your local store, try it out , then return it after 30 days if you don’t like it. It’s way underutiized in the gear world. Musicians/gear snobs need to get over their general hate for GC and start using this very valuable gear buying tool.

PS - GC is by no means the authority on how to ship gear. Some of the worst gear packing I have ever seen has come from them.

Holy shit yes! Especially for cabs, etc... I just have it sent to my local store, open and inspect it, and return if somethings wrong. I pretty much only use GC for used gear and new strings and picks. I’ve never caught a hassle with them, and can return easy, where I’ve had a couple rough ones on reverb, etc...

The GC used site is da bomb! I use it 95% of the time for all used gear. I very seldom buy any brand new gear anymore because I find used stuff all the time on there in great or excellent condition. I actually call the store & ask the sales guy to fetch the item from the used section, & then I have him explain to me in detail the exact condition of it.

You can also put the item on layaway with 25% down if you so desire.

It's a 45 day return period for used gear.....not 30.

I like GC a lot but their packing jobs are hit or miss at best. The stuff does then to survive, I guess, which is better than some private sellers can say.

True but , what would be great. Is such a situation existed , Because then you have a outlet that could become responsible and professional at shipping amps , cans etc. you pay them. You worry less about it arriving safely. Buyer has a reputable business to pick up the item from. If the buyer is satisfied they release the funds. Not a PayPal or other entity that doesn’t have a soul lol

They don't know how to ship an amp. I got a Mesa DC5 head in on oversized box with about 8 packing peanuts in it and 1 sheet of bubble wrap. I'm not exaggerating. Still don't know how it arrived in one piece.

But the beauty is you just leave the amp at the store and instantly get a refund. No need to deal with PayPal, reverb, the worthless seller, eBay, etc, etc, etc.

Never said I don't use them...just have plenty of experiences to share my feelings with the group lol

2 things:
1) The profit from such a business model wouldn't be worth the liability, with both seller & buyer both claiming that something miraculously "happened in shipping". I couldn't imagine volunteering to be the middle-man in such transactions.

2) Why do people always feel the need to bag on GC? It always sounds like a weak attempt at trying to sounds smart or experienced. They're not THAT bad, and often times pretty good. Someday when they're all gone and there's barely anywhere to look at nice walls full of guitars everyone will miss them. (just my opinion of course)

Hey ultradude, this "business model" isn't working. That's why they closed doors all over. I remember back when they had high end gear everywhere you looked and their idea is to focus on low end volume. They turned themselves into the KMart of music gear. Use one of your weak remarks lame brain and debate that smart guy.

Maybe an understanding in the current climate of the retail business in an internet world and a rough lesson in profit margin would change your opinion on the matter. Until then, we can agree to disagree.

Recently they've jumped their used prices to Reverb or Ebay levels. Not as many deals anymore. That said, I agree with others that GC is still one of the BEST places to buy used gear, with cheap shipping and a GREAT return policy. I've bought a shit ton of stuff from them over the past 8 yrs, and still have one cab from them with vintage 65s. They charge 35 bucks to ship a cab ANYWHERE in conus. That is stupid cheap. Yes, I've had some ridiculous pack jobs from them but surprisingly never had to return any due to breakage. I've scored a Mark IIC for 650, a mint 78 2204 for 799, MANY USA Charvels for 5-700, etc etc. I could write a book on all the scores I've had from them...some I've flipped for a nice profit and others I sold after GAS took over lol..
I for one feel they are a great source for used gear.

I am really surprised no one brings these guys up for shipping cabs http://www.busfreighter.com. I am telling you it works and extremely well. So far.....6 cabs 4x12 and 2x12's shipped with zero issues.

I have to mention that a fellow RT'r sent a 4x12 flight case to me from the west coast using this and I received it in 4 days.

^^this all day.

I agree about some of the recent prices but they will will negotiate if the gear has been sitting for a few months or if they’ve added the “price drop” tag to it.

All the good music stores by me have all closed over the years , guitar center
Is the only store that still had quality gear !! I’m fortunate that Sam ash is also in the same plaza
