I just spoke to a guy who bought a guitar off of me about a year ago. He told me, "hey, I will give you a great deal, I will give it to you for a little less than I bought it for!" I said, "oh yeah, great!" He then named his price. It was $750 more than he bought it from me. I said, "hey, killer deal man, I think I will pass." I wonder if he has remembered that he bought it from me or if he even will. he really hypes everything up. when I talk to him or see a sale, its always, "the BEST guitar I have ever played, hands down, just look at that maple top, LOOK AT THAT, its like it came from the heavens, have you ever in your life seen a piece of maple like that, it literally must have dropped from heaven and landed in this mere mortals guitar collection, plus, I need to thin the herd out, so I figured, why not get rid of THE BEST GUITAR I OWN or EVER HAVE OWNED, and by the way, I have a handful of guitars that ARE THE BEST GUITARS EVER CREATED ON THIS EARTH< or hell, THE ENTIRE GALAXY FOR THAT MATTER, ACTUALLY, THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE, you will find none better than the guitars I sell!! No reason to try and blow smoke up everyone's ass and make each sale thread some sort of event! Rant over. Just irritated he tried to charge me so much extra on the guitar I sold him, for a great deal I might add.

Seriously the only people I feel bad for because this has happened to me, I give someone a "bro" price with the agreement that if they are to sell it later that they offer it back to me at the same price minus any expenses/shipping, if I don't have the cash then its on me.

I do know a few people as well on this forum this has happened to, personally I won't really do "bro" prices in the future because of people not honoring their word and being greedy.

Like I said, if you had no prior agreement with him you have no right to demand or expect he sell you the guitar back at the same price. Sometimes certain pieces of gear appreciate overnight because of lawsuits, artists using them on a new album, John Mayer...etc.

This guy and I didn't have an agreement like that. He just didn't remember he got it from me then gave me a load of bullshit about giving me a "bro" deal. I have given some great deals on here, that's one of the benefits of making friends on a forum, you want to help your friends out and kick them deals. But, like you said, I have given bro deals and only one guy I sold an amp to didn't honor the deal we made. he assured me he was a solid guy. it wasn't until later when I told another guy that I was looking forward to eventually getting the amp back that he told me the guy turned around and flipped it for a huge profit. I was pretty blown away. when I was on the receiving end of a deal like that, and the seller asked that I contact them first, I always did. if someone gave me a killer deal, I was stoked and appreciated it because its cool when someone does that for you. the least I can do is give it back to them for what they gave it to me for. maybe some guys don't think its a big deal? I don't know, but personally, if I make a deal or have an agreement regarding a gear deal, I will always honor what we agreed on. I make it a point to do it for someone if they kicked me an awesome deal, but I guess some guys would rather turn around and make a profit than honor an agreement and keep their word.

I play guitar to have fun and don’t stress about this stuff. If I really want it and can afford the asking price, I don’t worry about what the other guy is doing. And if I can’t afford it, bummer and let it go.

I've probaby sold 30-40 pieces, (guitars and amps), in the past couple years.. I can count on one hand the number of times a made money. I don't sweat it selling, and certainly not a tightwad when I buy, but definitely shop.

I don't have a problem with people flipping for more, especially if it was GC used gear. GC sometimes don't know what they have and sell things under market. Other members here could give many examples of that (I'm never quick enough! ). I wouldn't expect the buyer to then pass on the savings. That's on them (GC). And if people are dumb enough to use Reverb/eBay asking prices as a reference then that's their problem.

But that's not what I got from the OP. It sounded like a dude with zero credibility trying to scam him.

I really don't have a problem with people trying to make money on something they've gotten a good deal on, or the tactics used. When I'm in the market for a piece of gear, I do my homework on what the going market is and what a good 'deal' would be. If I end up paying more than the guy got it for and he makes some cash, it doesn't matter to me because I paid what it was worth to me to get it. I've lost money on gear more times than I've made money, but I look at it as renting to try out cool stuff. If I buy something and end up paying way more than I might have gotten it for somewhere else, that's on me.

That being said, having a guy try to up charge me on something I sold to him would piss me off though.

I mostly just shake my head at some of these sellers. I sold an amp for 1800 and the guy just got over 3K. That's because the value of the amp went up a lot in the past year and the market is calling for what he got. I don't blame him one bit. I obviously should have kept it, so it's my loss. I have a lot of loses since coming on Rig Talk.
