I don't have a problem with people flipping for more, especially if it was GC used gear. GC sometimes don't know what they have and sell things under market. Other members here could give many examples of that (I'm never quick enough! ). I wouldn't expect the buyer to then pass on the savings. That's on them (GC). And if people are dumb enough to use Reverb/eBay asking prices as a reference then that's their problem.

But that's not what I got from the OP. It sounded like a dude with zero credibility trying to scam him.

Guys that part out guitars that are becoming difficult to find; example being older Charvels. I see a lot of Model series guitars stripped to pieces on Ebay, again nice if you need a part, but I'd rather see those older guitars stay in one piece.

I'm pretty much opposite as I hoard gear that I truly love If something was the "best guitar I ever played" why dafuq would I want to sell unless I was in dire financial situation?

I guess I can understand it from a hobby perspective to buy, sell and trade. Hell its cheaper than booze, strip clubs and cocaine. I do sort of loath the profit flipper types who get "bro deals" and then turn it for a profit.

Some folks just have to the newest hyped product that comes out or are just addicted to the thrill of the chase. Its a good way to tryout new products I guess. What I have done is buy used most of the time so I'l never take a hit of I ever re-sell. I never once have used an mfg's warranty on any guitar so I don't care about that but I'll buy them used for 20-60% off what they paid for new.

yes, I am going to try and go first thing Saturday as that is when all the cool gear is there before it is all sold. hopefully there will be some cool guitar and amp builders like last time. you should check it. I can contact you Saturday mo0rning and tell you whether its worth it or not. sometimes its awesome, others so/so.

I don't care if you find a good deal from a store or yard sale or something that you make a lot off of, but it's kind of lame when you do it through forums. Mostly because it starts with talking the item down in negotiations and then hyping it up in sales.

I've sold most of my stuff for profit or break even, but it's always a normal price. If I buy an amp for $1k I might sell it for $1100, and that's after owning it for a year or something. I'm not going to talk a guy down and then immediately flip my good deal for $700 more.

I think for me it has less to do with the actual act of flipping and more to do with the way in which it's done. Like the OP mentioned, the ads that full of ridiculous superlatives are especially annoying.

Me too, there's value in that. IIRC, there was an early Mesa Mark series (I can't remeber exactly what it was) that you just missed that was a great deal that GC wasn't aware of what it was. I wouldn't expect that buyer to sell it for what he got it for. I sold that clean, stock '76 Superlead for a few hundred more than what I got it from GC (~18 months earlier). And still somewhat regret it. Kinda crazy that GC often has better deals than Reverb.

I think GC has instructed their people to call the vintage Dept to get gear properly appraised, I've seen an uptick in what vintage Marshalls have been listed at for a few months now. But, occasionally a deal falls through the cracks lol. Trying not to look as much since I have C++, 2203 and 2558...don't really gas for much except the Camerons that are now showing up for 3K lol.....

That is a good price! I think with that amp though, they didn't have a clue lol. They've definitely adjusted their Marshall prices though.
I found a 67 Plexi on there a few months back, looked really clean and was a little over 2K. Called them but the kid told me the Vintage Dept had them pull it off the floor. Lol.
A week later I saw it on the Hollywood used site, originally it came out of Missouri. For over 4K.

I know Guitar Center has been going out of business for years now, but recently S&P downgraded the company to a CCC- which is pretty much junk bond status and most likely to default. I haven't bought much from them in years, I can't imagine anyone trading anything of value into them a couple of the flunky employee's stated their policy is to give half of what they can sell something for on the used market.

I don't see a whole lot of gear flipping these days... at least around where I live. Alot same gear has been for sale on CL for almost a year. Hey, if someone can make a buck that's great, I've been lucky to break even lately.

Is the seller being dishonest or lying about the item. I.e. lying about damage or specs?

If the seller is just stating his opinion he can do that. Maybe in his mind he still believes it's still a good deal and it is a great piece of gear.

That's exactly what my post was about, flipping. Doesn't matter if it's the same person trying to buy it back, people can ask whatever price they would like to get. If it's a worth it to the buyer then there's a deal, maybe it was undervalued originally. The owner can be as big of a douchebag as they'd like to be selling gear back. I don't like the whole used car salesman bit, I'd just walk away.

If they had a previous agreement, then yeah, they both should honor it.

I don't get it. Why can't you just say "NO man..i sold it to you for 500, i'm not going to pay you 1200!"

But hey i've given out "bro" deals to close buddies, but mostly to upgrade my rigs. I sold a Mesa triple rec to a buddy for $650, he stressed to me that he needed it badly. LOL, he had it for a few weeks then started selling it for $1200. He offered it to me for $850 after he sat on it a month. I told him i didn't need the Mesa anymore and wasn't interested. NOW...If i was in the market for a triple rec well $850 was going to be a good deal. I didn't feel abused, it was his amp.

I do see why you'd be upset...but we didn't have to give out the "bro" deal so it's our own fault.

Now if this guy the OP is talking about is trying to deceive you on what he bought it for....remind him! That'd be my first reply.
