16. At 16 I was still trying to wrap my mind around Clapton and Page. I'm glad I didn't see this video when I was 16 because I probably would have put.....check that.....THROWN the guitar down.

The guy I was with though (king crimson Gerlach) made me extremely uncomfortable as he pummeled Shawn with stupid questions like " are you as fast as Frank Gambale" and "what do you think of Frank, I have been studying his video" . I disappeared quick as that was just plain awkward and I did not want to have anything to do with the moronic line of questions.

Ive heard that story and I cant fathom what would possess someone to do that...

Shawn lane just opened up new worlds for me.A unique musical voice matched with an unparalleled technique.

bump for the immortal beloved and very much missed

LOVE THIS! I wish I could play like this. My wife would have murdered me by now, but still... it would be worth it.

missed

I saw him as a teen at a Black Oak Arkansas concert, late 70's and he wiped the floor with just about any consider considered to be
a recognized guitar hero at that time. He did a solo that was unbelievable. Ahead of his time, and most never noticed it, then he was off into his own thing.

I think the illness that killed him is now an easy administered drug and promoted on tv by pharma companies.

he was the man. his music is on weekly rotation while driving and before practice...
just awsome

My absolute favorite version of Little Wing. It just never gets old.

That Little Wing clip was awesome, the guy on the blue Strat played some fairly tasty stuff too!

Exemplifies why Lane was SO good - even when he played fast it still sounds great and not like Michael Angelo, for example, just playing mechanically.

For me, he's one of the absolute greats. The way he plays is just so out there and ridiculously technical, but so beautiful with it. He's not my fav overall player, but he is my fav from a purely "guitar" perspective.

His playing just boggles my mind.
