sheilding paint?

I had resonance issues when shielding with copper tape. using a non removable paint that may have the same or worse effect is scary to me.

So you recommend....? Whats the best way to sheild? or is it worth it?

I have used copper tape and foil. while I liked the shielding it seemed to lessen the resonance of the instrument a little.

I believe this was from the natural vibrational absorption properties of the copper.

For me I was happier without it at all. YMMV.

Are you having serious noise issues?

I let my decimator pickup the slack for my MCP passives. are you using a noise suppressor?

I've heard a lot of others say this too, I was thinking about doing it once upon a time but it scared me away

i can certainly see the copper tape causing resonance issues since it's a thin slab of sticky back copper being stuck to the guitar. it's like a scaled down version of using dynomat or hush mat in a car when doing a high end stereo to stop things from resonating and rattling. so i'm not a big fan of copper tape in guitars. however i've never noticed any difference in resonance when using shielding paint and i have it in pretty much every guitar i own and have owned in the past (i like them extra quiet). it's actually a very thin fairly watery paint and not some thick heavy paste like stuff or anything like that. thus why i've never noticed any resonance change, just quieter guitars. the thick ass poly paint on modern guitars will cause more of a resonance change than a thin layer of shielding paint will that's for sure.

I installed some emgs in my prs mccarty and i noticed on all my other emg equiped guitars that the back plate had copper tape, do you guys normally use compper tape and do you think i need to do it.

Mu metal tape it the way to go. This stuff is the best.
There is no better material for shielding. Do be careful to bend and flex it as little as possible though, as it has a major effect on it's permeability.

You can get it for a good price at mcmaster carr

The best thing to do is use a couple thin layers versus one thicker.
Up to 100 times better shielding than most anything else out there.
