Shipping to Australia?

I’m selling my G&L Jerry Cantrell Superhawk and got a message that a buyer wants it… in Australia. “Or I can ship go his friend in Nyc”. I’m 50/50 on whether its a scam or not? Says he saw my ad here and on FB marketplace (where he messaged me).

Has anyone ever shipped down under? If it’s not a scam, How much extra is it going to cost? Am I better off shipping to his friend? Thats the part that seems scammy? Its actually not the first time someone has asked me to ship down under. I’d just imagine the shipping and import fees would be outrageous.

Have them pay with bank wire and send you a DHL shipping label and schedule a pickup. Otherwise, not worth the effort

I would only do it if it's a well known forum member that people can vouch for.

I don't mind shipping stuff further afield if I know I'm dealing with a legit member who's done deals before.

I know Zen, and a couple others are down under, and I wouldnt have any qualms about dealing with them.

Western union. Ship to NY after you collect the $. No longer your problem after that. There is a member here that claims to live in another country (not Australia), but actually is an American that lives in NY. People are weird, but if you have the cash in hand, let them be weird.

I shipped a $13 shave brush to @Thumbpicker once. It cost me $30 to ship it. And it took like 2 months to get there.

I’m in Australia and have bought amps from US, Canada and Europe

Shipping is expensive and we know that

Same.

It's fkn expensive, but we know that and just cop the hit. We don't get the market range of items and prices you guys in get so we have to do our homework and pay the money it costs to get it down here.
Scammers can exist everywhere (except in Nigeria), but you should be able to work that out with some basic questions back and forth to gauge the buyers knowledge and level of integrity you're happy with. We're not all just a colony of Raygun's down here scamming our way through the world.

It can be an extra hassle to ship international and I get why it may not be worth the effort, and I've been knocked back many times hoping to get things shipped here, but it can be done successfully and the buyer will be extremely grateful. There's plenty of people out there doing it trust me. Just don't go for the cheapest options. It's got to be done right and that will cost solid money and the buyer needs to foot that cost as part of the deal. I've bought from Thomann in Europe and UK stores and had it here faster and cheaper than our national mail carriers could do interstate.
The price we pay for living on the other side of the globe. I've still managed to score many items never stocked here, and that cost far less than the retail shops down here would charge.

Not sure how you can complain about a few bucks in tariffs when you're rocking authentic ray bans and genuine Harley shirts. That's like 350 US dollars worth of gear you got on there.
Nah they are Rey Bins and a Hardlee Davilsen t-shirt from Temu.

This is actually an annoying issue. I’ve seen and wanted some great stuff in the US, but people are so against shipping outside of the US. Europeans don’t seem to mind. The risk is probably bigger for me, the buyer, to be honest.

The shipping fees aren’t that bad. The import taxes are. So the item would have to be something very specific and hard to get in Australia to be worth it. Are G&L Superhawks obscure? I don’t know them.

If the buyer was in Melbourne I’d be happy to help you out. You could deliver it to me (not that well known here, but I could give you some info in DMs). But in this case seems like the NY friend might be the best option.

Most of the time it's because of scammers. I don't think anyone has issues shipping to well known aussie members.

Its a constant battle down under (Melbournian here). Ive lived in NZ where its far worse. If I can't make it with my bare calloused hands, like others have said, we just cope hard and carry on in the Great Southern Land.
