The other guitar player in the band is selling his Shiva. I'm not sure off hand which one he has. I'm considering buying it from him. Ever since I heard one at the ampfests, I was sold. However, I'm not sure which one I heard there. Can you change the type of tubes? Also, this one doesn't have reverb. Am I missing out?

I believe the one that Jeff Fisher had back at the VA ampfests was an EL34. 99.99% certain of that.

I think you're right Mike. The EL34 versions are definitely more sought after then the 6L6 models...

OK, that's what I was wondering. Thanks Mike!

You're not missing out on not having the reverb imo, plus the amp gets a little quieter when you kick it in apparently because it's "padded down" which would make it even less desireable at least for me.

I would get the EL34 version unless you are going to use the clean channel more often then the overdrive side...the clean on the EL34 is still kick ass though.

I've had a brand new 6L6 Shiva Head for about two-weeks now that I traded a guitar for & it kicks ass! I played the EL34 version prior to acquiring this one & to be honest, I can't hear a whole lot of difference between the two. The 6L6 version may have a little bit "rounder" of a sound on the gain channel similiar to Boogie's vs. Marshall's if that makes any sense? Both versions sound killer on both channel's though IMHO!

Mine also has the reverb which I don't use, a) Because I'm not a reverb person, b) When the reverb ciruit is engaged it "does" drop the amplifiers volume. However, if you want a killer old-school fender sound on the clean channel, it is a very luscious sounding verb if your into that!

The effects loop has me a little baffled at the moment. The new Shiva's basically have two seperate loops, one for rack effects & one for stomp boxes. The only thing I use in the loop is a Rocktron Intellifex & I have yet to get it to work as well as my Diezel Einstein serial loop?

Svet EL34 - and if should like low volumes: a new/different fan.

I just picked up an EL34 non-reverb shiva head and it KILLS!!!

I have to echo what everybody's said about the 6L6 vs EL34. If you spend more time on the cleans go with the 6L6 otherwise I'd go with the EL34s. I don't miss the reverb...and if I do I'll buy a pedal lol
