Finally get the family away for a little vacation. Booked this newer condo right on the ocean. Definitely not exactly what I thought I was getting. Smaller than I was told (barely enough room for all of us to sit down and eat meals together), table is falling apart (they sent maintenance to try to put it back together but no way can 4 of eat at the table) and then I get up early and the coffee maker does not work. I wonder what else I will find. It is a bunch of little stuff but I am slightly disappointed. I guess we will eat out more given the circumstances. We stayed at an older condo a few years ago which wasn't as nice (aestetically very dated) however, the couch was comfy, kitchen was big and the table was plenty big for all of us to eat at and it wasn't falling apart (we are old school and eat most meals sitting down together at one table so this is an issue for me). Guess we will eat most of our meals out.

I can't wait for the time share people to start calling today....

ugh. Not a great start to the vacation. Hope it picks up. Spend most of your time on the sand and in the ocean. You'll feel better!

what beach is this (dont say Myrtle please!)

Myrtle.

That's a bummer...hope things go better for the rest of your trip. I'd put together a list of issues and get it to the property management company ASAP.

Bummer. Try Atlantic Beach/Emerald (North Carolina) Isle next year. We've had great luck over the years with the various cottages on the beach.
Hey, it's finally nice up here in Ohio. Nice cool/dry air. Got in the upper 50's last night. Yeah!!!!
Have fun and enjoy the beach!! Still way better than being here.

Jeez, that sucks Laura, sorry to hear it. My wife & I just got back from Cozumel...and of course her gears are spinning about getting a condo there. You get a 3br/2ba condo with all new granite kitchen/appliances, walk in shower and closet in the master, balcony/garage and pool/jacuzzi for $200k.

I then have to remind her that she only gets to take 10-12 days of the 30 paid vacation/sick days she has per year and that the condo is 4000 miles away from us.

But she liked the big dining room table that sat 6, so I get where you're coming from.

No I'm not going to start building speakers in Mexico folks. ;)

Let us know what the rental/timeshare folks say...this should be interesting. I'd start talking partial refunds now, too.

Good luck!

Myrtle was fun back in the days with the Pavillion! We used to cut school and ride to the beach. Coral Beach resort on the beach is still good. The wife and daughter spend fat coin at that Tanger outlet mall.

It makes for good story telling about the vacation, bottom line is your there to make some great memories with family, sounds like your off to a great start!!! Have a great time Laura!!!

[Should you be pissed]
I suppose getting conned a bit by size and quality is one thing. Did they say how many sq.ft or did you rely on the wide-angle lens work of the pictures? Where is this place? Is it a resell (timeshare) or an actual hotel with a front desk? What I'm getting at is - are the units independently owned or is this room part of a complex wide management team?

Personally, I'd voice my concerns to the front desk, give 'em a list of things that aren't to your satisfaction, and spend as MUCH time outside and enjoying the sun and sand as possible. Eating together, eating in, is a good tradition to keep live and well...but seeing as you're near the beach and the heat, outside of eating and using the bathrooms and sleeping - spend all your time outdoors.

Good luck with it. It's usually these little stories that in retrospect turn into "fond memories" for the family.

Cheers,
Mo

Where are you staying? I done a bunch of work in that area and know of some good places to eat and what not.

No. Just enjoy yourself and relax.
Getting angry will only ruin what should be a great time with your family.
Enjoy.

We are making the best of it. The place isn't bad. Just a bit cramped and the housekeeper does not know how to dust... Great day at the beach and pool today.

The weather really took at turn back in Ohio(rain, temps in the low 70's),feels like a fall day.
So soak up the sun and enjoy the time away.

Nah, Don't ruin your vay-cay, make the best of it and I agree that 10 yrs from now you will all be telling funny stories about sitting in a 3x3 room eating when the table falls apart
Sit on the beach and drink something strawberry flavored and stare at the ocean for a while, Have a good one!

It's all good. Maybe if we planned a little farther in advance we could have found a bigger place (or realized that this place would be a little small for what I wanted). My husband got promoted and is working his ass off and summer is busy for me as I am trying to run a small business and still keep my kids engaged. It rained last night so we stayed in, had pizza and watched a movie (kids begged to do this for some reason). Up early planning the day now. :)

We had the opposite happen. We booked a week in a mountain home in the Georgia mountains. The home turned out to be huge, hot tub, etc...pool table, huge kitchen, etc. I always bring my own home roasted coffee, travel grinder, aeropress espresso maker and so on.
Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Back home. Stopped in Raleigh and had dinner with James Lugo and his family. That was fun. I had to chuckle because we stayed in a Hampton Inn in Raleigh for the night and it was cleaner than our resort condo. :) We had a great time but I was disappointed that we did not have a bigger living room/dining room area. The couch was awful to sit on and there was only one other chair. Everything looked really nice and up to date but it was all junk furniture (minus the beds which were very comfy (I slept the best I have ever slept away from home)).

Now it is back to working out and eating healthy. I think we all gained a few pounds while we were gone.
