How is Western Union any different than a cash sale? Or a personal check? Or a Postal Money Order?

Fuck Paypal. I hate using them. What did y'all do before Paypal was around? There are better options than Western Union, though. How about a digital check? You write a check to the guy. Put his bank account number on the front, go to the bank and direct deposit it.

I've taken personal checks as payment before. I just wait for them to clear before shipping. It's no big deal. All internet sales are based on trust. Paypal, while they offer security, are a shady company and I really hate them for a lot of political reasons. So I try to avoid using them. I've never had a problem with a buyer/seller before.

Use your best judgement. If it's someone with like 4 posts on the forum and no history/references on other forums, eBay, Reverb, then yeah... shady as hell to request Western Union. If it's a dude who's been here for 10 years and has 20k posts and good deals with a bunch of people and an eBay account with good feedback and you know his blood type and DNA/genome... I'd do it.

So this guy contacts me on my email saying he has an item I was looking to buy, so I say ok,he sends 2 pictures and I ask "do you take paypal?" so he says no, only western union. I tell him I don't do western union for security issues and he tells me that he swore to not use paypal a long time ago since he was hacked, and that he doesnt have any friends that could receive the paypa payment for him. I tell him on which forum he saw my ad and he says here, and when I asked him if he could tell me his username he said he would not give me his username since his deals are based on trust not fear He also urged me to send payment today as apparently he would not be able to make the sale some other day ...Should I be wary????

Yep.. I quit using them 4 years ago. After years of solid transactions, they said I could not proceed with them unless I changed from them having a credit card# to having all my bank account info. I just told them to terminate my account

LOL, the guy wouldn't even give me his user name, so I have no idea if he is really a member, I doubt it. I ended up googling for pics of the pedal I wanted to buy and in the first page the exact same pics he was sending me showed up .....ended up getting offered the item by two other real members and got those instead so it all worked fine in the end. But please be aware that somebody is posing as a forum member if you put up WTB threads.
