There's a 2019 Peters Format 7 with the Reptilicus overdrive currently listed on Reverb. I have an older Pro Dual Channel with the Vega overdrive channel. I'm considering getting the Format 7 and selling the Pro Dual Channel. I really like my Peters and don't have any reason to part with it. The Vega overdrive channel sounds awesome. The Format 7 is the newest model and the Reptilicus overdrive channel is supposed to cover the Vega & Regulus tones. It's also smaller and lighter than my Pro Dual. That's the only reasons I'm considering making a swap. The main thing stopping me is the hassle of buying/selling and my recent track record buying gear on Reverb hasn't been the best; about 50/50.

What does everyone think? Should I get the Format 7 & sell my Pro Dual or save myself the hassle and just keep the Pro Dual?

I’ve been keeping an eye on that amp too. Someone needs to buy it, and I’ve been stopping myself from pulling the trigger.

I own a Format 7 Fire Hammer (the one pictured on James’ website), but that is my only experience with Peters amps. From my conversations with James when he was building my amp, he did make some tweaks to the loop, master volume, and (if memory serves) power amp in the Format 7 amps. He had to rearrange some things to get them to fit the smaller chassis. Also due to size constraints, the Format 7 amps also lose a couple of features, like the dual master volumes.

He did mention that the master volume is a lot more gradual than the older models.

Sorry that I can’t comment on the tones.

I have also been watching that amp for months. I went thru 4 of the Peters amps before stopping on the FSM. Was bummed when I let it go a while back. The price on this replicus recently dropped a bit and I almost jumped again but it's still more than a project I've been wanting to do for almost a year. I might be too deep in "savings account" mode to ever convince myself into buying or building anything music related again.

Having climbed the Peters amp ladder thru the various models gain abilities/build years I can tell you that his amps just keep getting better with every variant. But I will most definitely stress that if you're happy with what you have,it's better to keep it than let it go for something else. I eventually found it better to keep what I had and buy something else too before letting something I loved go to get something else. Just my personal experience.

But I'll be damned if I don't want that Replicus too.

I would keep both if you really dig the tone of the one you have ?

"Replacing" something never seems to work out how you want. Always ends up with regret.

I miss James. I accidently called him on my old landline once and ended up paying like $70 for a 2 hr phone call. I didn't regret it. He just loves cats too much for me, but I am allergic.

What’s FSM stand for . Im getting schooled here lol
Flying Spaghetti Monster, right? I think he just called it the FSM.

If memory serves, he incorporated some aspects of the preamp design from the FSM into the Gryphon/Firejack to make the Fire Hammer. The Plasma Blade is on another level. Haven’t tried one of those bad boys.

So plasma blade sounds like THE one to get ?

It’s the tightest and most brutal sounding one, according to what James told me. When he built my amp, he was in the process of turning the Body Hammer into the Plasma Blade. I’ve seen/heard clips of the Body Hammer, and it does sound brutal. I can imagine that the Plasma Blade kills. I haven’t sought out clips for it.

How many amps he make ?

I think he consolidated his lineup down to 3-4 models now. He put some voicing switches on the new amps to give them some more versatility. I’m not sure how many of each model are out in the wild at this point. Don’t see them too often.
