Should I ditch my half stack and go digital?

Any recommendations for monitors?

I've never been much of an expert on super high end monitors, but I've done shootouts with the mid tier stuff. I use JBL LSR308 v1's with the matching sub. I don't think they make them anymore, they've updated them with the 308p MkII which I haven't tried but they're supposed to be almost exactly the same but with an upgrade or two here and there. I went to a store a while back that had a ton of stuff, and out of all the speakers around that kinda price range, the JBL's to my ear were the best sounding to mix and listen to music on. I liked them more than anything in that price range from Adam, KSR, or Mackie. I even liked them more than the Adam A8's. The ribbon tweeter in that speaker everybody raved about technically sounded clear and accurate but there was something about the JBL's tweeter that my ear gravitated towards more. The Yamaha HS8 had slightly clearer midrange than the JBL's, but the JBL's overall sounded bigger and fuller, and again, better for listening to music on, which I do a lot more than mixing to be honest.

As for the higher end stuff, I know companies like Genelec, ATC, Neumann, Barefoot, and Adam have the best reputations. I've listened to stuff from all those companies but not in a shootout format. The best stuff from those companies sounds fantastic.

The best thing you can do is find a store that has a ton of different monitor pairs all setup, bring music you're familiar with on something with a headphone jack, and listen to everything.

I don't play live anymore. Thinking of ditching my halfstack, maybe I'll keep my combo. Tired of needing cap jobs, tubes, etc. I'm disabled and can't afford that stuff anymore. The thing is, digital sounds so good now and back in the day, I'd have sold my left nut to get some of the sounds that are possible today with digital.

Whaddya think? PS, playing really loud to get the air moving isn't an option where I live.

Should you give up females and buy a Japanese Sex Robot?

I hear they can hold conservations now....

If you can't play at a reasonable volume there's not much reason for a half stack.

You shouldn't be needing caps and tubes all the time. Caps are maybe once every 20-30 years, and tubes are good for several thousand hours.

Well that’s one strike against them.

Regarding the monitors, I used Adams T7Vs for years, and thought they sounded pretty good, until I put up some good sound panels then they sounded great. I did upgrade to the Kali Audio IN-8, and like them very much.

I use mine more for general listening than mixing and for my modelers.
