jerry was known as the peavey guy cause he was one of the only guys that did peavey mods for a long while
if a guy can improve a peavey, he surely can do much better on a marshall type amp
peaveys aren't much mod friendly in comparison
I don't see why not naming the guy who did the mod, since it's a respected guy
nothing wrong about not liking something the most people do
I hate mesas, for example, and I'm not dragging randall smith's name through anything
you could even tell what you don't like to the guy himself, and maybe he might give you some tip or tweak it to please your tastes
a few years back, I bought a '73 marshall jmp that was completely butchered and rebuilt by some mysterious modder from california (it was definitely a shop job, but I couldn't find out who did it)
it had a fine loop and lots of gain, but it was way too bassy, dark and muddy unless I cut all the bass and cranked the presence... probably a good amp for fender guys, but not for my big and bassy sounding les pauls
I had my tech bandmate installing some bright caps, then I did some coupling cap improvements myself
it still remained darkish and bassy, but it's been my absolute favorite amp since then
I finally found my own sound
I recently swapped a couple preamp tubes and now it sounds a little brighter and the low end got much tighter
I honestly wouldn't trade this amp for any of the boutique stuff in the market, and it was just an OK amp before doing very little tweaks (changing the first stage and phase inverter coupling caps and adding a couple bright caps.... which was basically cutting a lot of bass from the circuit using lower valued NOS mustard caps)
my point is that maybe your problem isn't as big as you think it is
one right component might change the whole thing, and unless you don't like the amp AT ALL, maybe there's no need of having some big expensive mod done again
one question... did you like the amp BEFORE the mods?
