Should I make this trade?

Looks like the deal is going down Tuesday... Actually kind of stoked on this.

I'd check it over good. If it has issues it could be a nightmare to get repaired.

I plan on it. The guy sent me some very detailed pictures, and it looks extremely clean all around. The lettering on the faceplate around the knobs has worn off in places but thats not a big deal.

Personally I’d do that trade in a heartbeat, I’m not at all a fan of the EVH though.
Yeah, this right here.

Yep! I've had a few Engls and they all kicked ass. I always wanted to try the Invader

Well, I did the trade and it's already up for sale in the classifieds. I am just dead set on a Kemper. The Invader sounds awesome, I really just enjoy my 6505 so much, I feel like it will never actually get used and I would rather have the Kemper for a studio tool. I listed for $1500, I feel like that is fair. Maybe?

This quickly?

Just for shits n' giggles, try the following on the Invader:
Bright OFF,
High gain OFF,
Channel 2,
Gain between 9 'o clock and 11 'o clock.
Max out the EQ (10/10/10)
Channel volume at 2 o' clock
Adjust master to taste

Rock out some AC/DC, Guns, etc. Use High gain mode as a lead boost.

This thick version of almost Marshall-tone is something that the EVH is not capable off, due to something weird in the mids.
Vice versa, the Invader may lack some of the bright-ish kerrang, that the EVH can do in the Blue channel.

See, what I love most about my 6505 is the mids. I tried most of what you suggested. Just seems to be a clanky sound that I associate with EL34 tubes most of the time that I am just not a fan of.

It sounds amazing overall, the clean channel is the real overall winner to me about that amp, but like I said, just not my cup of tea as a complete package and I am so happy with the tone of my 6505 with the new tubes and mercury transformers I just installed, I think that will stay as my main tube amp and I will get a Kemper for studio use and tooling around.

If that's really how you feel, get a Kemper, take a bunch of direct profiles of your favorite tones on the Invader, and then sell it. Win/win!

Gotcha.
Personally -since I think the Invader is quite a middy amp to begin with- I like my EQ settings in Channel 2 different as well. So I *cut* mids in 3 of the 4 channels, except Channel 3, which is more scooped in its nature.
The clean channel is indeed something else and the only two high-gain heads that I found that match (or surpass) that Invader's clean tone would be a Mesa Mark IV and a Diezel D-Moll.

But generally, I seem to like EL34 tones, although I will say that my EVH50W (6L6 version) is nice, tight and grindy.

Unfortunately as much as I would love to do that, I have to sell the ENGL to fund the Kemper. I own racecars, so they like to chew through any spare money I happen to possess lol

@Phil;
how would you rate the Invader's CH3 (in High gain mode) vs the Red channel of the EVH?

To me both are very saturated and compressed, but with the EVH maybe a tad bigger in the low-mids, where the Invader's CH3 is tighter (without sounding thin!). EVH may be a tad more raw too, I guess.

I liked the EVH red channel much better. It felt tighter and less clanky.

To me the best Channel on the Engl is channel 2 with High Gain on and Bright off with everything right around noon and a boost. It came closest to what I enjoy but it still had this weird mid-high clank to it that I just couldn't dial out. I honestly don't know how to describe it other than call it a clank lol

I wish I had two cabs so I could A/B my 6505 and the ENGL but right now I don't.

What speakers were you using?

Engls typically tend to favor V30's and work nicely with K85/K100's too.

I think I know what you mean, but I wouldn't describe it as clanky myself. Gjephflewy maybe...  It's slightly thicker than 'clanky'.

But yeah, Channel 2 is rather unique in the Engl-scheme of tones. A lot less compressed, but also less raw than say a Savage.

Orange PPC412 with V30s and K85/100s in an X lol
