I'm also surprised that I'm finding the same thing with my Trad Pro II. But I'm going to try and make it work for now. Lowering the pole pieces flat to the surface and then playing with pickup heights to see if I can warm it up a bit. I have had some success so far, so I'll keep trying for now. Really like the 57 Classic in the neck though.

Well, any update on this?? I'm still not too fond of the Classic Plus.

Thanks a ton guys.

How is the Aldrich "shrill-wise"?
It's not in a LP.

JB has less high end than the Aldrich in an LP style guitar, in my opinion. Very smooth non-shrill upper end on the JB. Rebel Yell is similar to the Aldrich (not the same but similar) in an LP but with less low end and a bit more compressed: great pup. ---> viewtopic.php?f=3&t=144072

What about a classic? dimarzio super distortion? ceramic, fat enough but tight enough. Custom SH-11 has way too flubby a low end. the SD has warmth and cut. Me likey in a brighter axe.

Jb/jazz combo is a good one….but I went with the 35th anniversary which is supposed to be an older 80's replica and supposedly less harsh sounding. Never compared them to regular jb's though.

Update from my side: decided to check out an Aldrich for the bridge, although a good friend offered my a nail bomb set for a super price, but out of curiosity I went with Suhr, which I got for 99 Euros.
So far I like it. Pretty rounded tone (fortunately - I was afraid I would end with Alrich's sound from the WS DVD, which I don't like too much). Very nice pickups so far. Need to test-drive it at higher vol levels though . . . will give the Nailbombs also a try in another LP a bit later.
So thanks from me for all the suggestions, guys.

The Duncan Custom is my goto Les Paul pickup. It just sounds killer in both of my Les Pauls.
