My mom still gets on my case when a new piece of gear comes in the house. She always says "Save Your Money !", But if i had the money burning a hole in my pocked i would probably spend it in other ways anyways. So i usually have to resort to "Little White Lies" about how much the stuff actually cost me....hehehe

The companies really hate guys like me and killertone because I don't buy anything I can't pay off comfortably within the same month, and this whole time I've been collecting rewards money hand over fist from them! They keep raising my credit limit (I had an $23,000 limit when I was 18) in order to try to get me to slip up, but I never will!

I do the same thing and I assure you that the financial institutions couldn't care less. We are enough of a rarity that we don't even put a small dent in their earnings with our free monthly loans (i.e credit card purchases) and free rewards money.

Well thank you Helpy Helperton. It's very kind of you to register on the forum just to share this great financial advice with us. <burp>

No .... she never questions my decisions about money or anything else much. Any time I buy a toy I give her at least as much & often more. Been that way over 20 years. It is very unusual for her to complain about anything ever.

And THIS is why it's been over 20 years, nuff said.

Actually that last line was a joke. I probably bitch more to be honest but she does very little.
I was married to her twice by common law & both of us were married to other people when we had a 7 year separation. All three of mine were common law. We are very close friends ... But I do not think of her as my wife anymore. Lived together on & off for 24 years.

I refuse to incriminate myself in this thread
Trust me, as someone who has been married for 23 years, and buying gear for 35 years, at some point she will have some input on your gear whoredom  If you are making a living with your gear, you have a leg to stand on. Later. when your not, she may have you peeing on that same leg.. Time can heal old wounds, or it can open new ones
Just sayin' ;)

Since posting this thread, I've bought Equator D5s, VHT Fatbottom, Peavey 5150 II, Ibanez Apex II, Mackie Onyx 800R, another SM57, and shopping for a PRS Mike Mushok baritone... couple pedal bids on eBay at the moment, too. Welp...

my wife and i are on the same page financially. i clear stuff with her i want to buy, same with her, if it's over 100$. it works well that way. we dont have credit cards, so i really dont have a credit worry problem with my wife or our finances. we pay cash for everything.

when i do sell a bunch of my gear, or any of her stuff, and set it aside for our own personal use, most times, as murphy will dictate, something ALWAYS comes up with the cars, the bills or the kids and forces us to make the right decision....use it on our family, NOT use a credit card or our savings for it. use the spare toy money.

yeah, it makes for not "having" all the extraneaous gear i did when i was younger, and she cant just up and fly to the southwest to see her family every 1/2 year and hang out with friends.... but, at the end of the day, we sleep soundly knowing we're not on a billing cycle thats compounding every month. if that means waiting longer to buy the toys we want, take trips, etc then so be it..by then, we usually talk ourselves out of it, or find better deals on it anyways.

prime example, my wife wanted a REALLY nice camera for like 3 years now...first it was 1800, and kept dropping....this year, it was 800, and she bought it...and a month later, it dropped another 100$. so she took it back and got the 100 rebate with the accessories that costco was offering. 3 years ago, spending 1800 on the camera, yeah, we couldve done it, but, 3 years later, THAT 1000$ stretched about where 1300$ would've gone..if you follow (gas prices, inflation, etc). making the right monetary decisions is truly tough, and, for all you young un's under 25 blowing up the credit cards on all kinds of new gear, i'd give this advice: be very careful with impulse buys.

in short, if your ol lady is bitching at you about buying shit for yourself and nothing for her, then its a jealousy issue....

but if she's telling you "hey, wtf, another guitar/amp/etc", you just spent 2k last week/month/day etc....maybe you should be looking at it.

My EX-wife was a controlling bitch. When I left her, she went through the computer collecting screen names for a number of music forums I had joined looking for info to hang me with. I had actually commented on a thread like this one years ago regarding lying about gear prices (bet you didn't know you get get a Boogie Rec for $350). She tried to use it in our divorce. Have a great girl now with an expensive camera fetish that balances everything out :)
Just saying, be careful guys.
