Still say HX Stomp or similar.

I get a kick out of gear talk. Everyone's got vastly different opinions. I know I'm ignorant, so that's why I'm here asking lol

I was under the impression that these stomp box amp sim/IR units these days were meant to take the headache out of it. Less cables, just plug up to the board, use a preset, etc... But yet some are saying it will overcomplicate things. Not sure which to believe

I meant PS-6. I use OD-1 gain at 6 and push with the SD-1. Yes, the 10 cent pitch shift sounds great with the mix around 9:30

That is my impression as well, without spending a couple grand like for an Axe Fx.

Get a decent chorus and a decent delay and call it good. The rest of your gear is great for what you want to do.

Depending on how much you want to spend, I would get a Boss Chorus a TC Alter Ego/Flashback X4 if youre on a budget, or if you want to spend a bit more I'd get like a FTT Flight Time and Tri Avatar if you want to really nail that 80s sound.


An HX stomp would be fine if you have a couple months to spend menu diving and dialing in your presets before the gig, but if your gig is soon that's a bad, bad idea.

All I really want is to create a simple 80s metal tone that I can set and leave. Something that will cover the brown sound, but also work for the other songs too.

I'm thinking a phaser or something will help round out the sound, and maybe a boost pedal or preamp. I'm looking for recommendations for what to buy. Tried and true products. Any help or advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

The other things I'm going to need in addition to gear recommendations is a good tutorial on basic stock settings. I don't trust my judgement on gear/tone. I'm looking for something not so overly laden with effects. Just kind of a touch of it

These two quoted sections lead me to tell you not to go with the Line 6 HX line for your current need. Lots of menus to go through editing settings, deep diving in an editor, A/Bing nonstop to find what you're looking for, etc. You keep bringing up stock presets in relation to pedals with 3 or 4 knobs - you're going to be overwhelmed with an HX Stomp and 3 weeks to set it up. Just get one of the delay pedals people have mentioned in the thread and a modulation effect of some sort (chorus, phaser, etc) and keep everything easily adjustable on the fly.

Line 6 HX line is great but experiment when you have more time and do not completely overhaul your rig when you've got a gig 3 weeks away.

Honest truth - people watching your gig won't care that much about how your tone is or what effects are being used, they're going to care more about the playing... and even then the majority of people won't even pick up on any of the specifics of that as long as you're not bombing.
