How do we feel about these? I remember a long time ago, people were really split on them.
What about mods? Any body doing badass mods on them. I was thinking about picking one up and trying it, since i don't hear a lot about them.

i think they sound fine, just not enough oomph for a band is what i understand

I really like them. Some don’t like the effects loop on them but I’ve never had a use for one

Yeah. I see they have a paralel effects loop. I don't like those. But i only use an effects loop, if my boost pushes the noise of the amp to an annoying level. And the effects loop is easy as hell to change.

Ya, fix the loop.

This. I had a series 1 single and it sounded pretty damn good. It did kinda run out of steam early. Modding the parallel loop to a series one was like two wires.

No wonder they run out of steam early. That's about as big a transformer as Vox use for the AC15.

I had Mailman's FJA modded single recto for a while. Wish I had kept it.
Loved it at loud bedroom levels. Like loud enough to be obnoxious.
But it fell apart when getting to "jamming with a drummer" levels.
The FJA mod was kick ass.

I like my series2. It has been modded to a serial loop and a send-level control added. When you knock the send-level down to around 1:00 it allows a much more tapered volume/output control from the front. I don't play in a band though, so can't really speak to how it holds at extreme loudness.

Loudness is very important to me. I was already skeptical of a 50, but it sounds like a cool amp for sure.

I had one for a minute. Sounded great and was fun to record with. To be honest though, I had it when i was young and can't say we knew much about good live tone back then. We just played loud and fast. Lots of unmic'd basement shows and vfw halls. Seemed to hold up fine volume wise with an old 8ohm Greenback/V12H 30 loaded Marshall 4x12 for rock tones. For tighter metal you might want some extra juice from the power section.

If I remember right to get a good tight metal sound I had to use an eq in the loop and boost the front end.

I had one that I used as a backup to a Soldano HR50 in my live rig.

It sounded good and worked fine for me. Held together at loud band volume. I did not use the loop, so that was not a concern.

I think it’s a solid amp if you can get one at a good price? No idea what the going rate is now.

The only thing I’d add, is there are a lot more choices now then when I had this.
