Single Recto?

Other than being 50watts, and not having the option of a tube rectifier, what are the differences between a Mesa Single Rectifier and a two channel Dual Rectifier????

less headroom and power amp punch
you get a full punch with the 100 watter with the master around 1 (and I don't mean 1 o clock)
with the 50 watter it only comes with the master around 4
this was comparing them in the same cab in the same day and quite loud in a studio room
but the tonal texture is pretty much the same
I had both

Doesn't the Single Rec have a dedicated clean mode? And I think it's missing the bold/spongy switch, but could be wrong about that.

Truth be told, 50 watts is plenty for anything. Even a 30 watt combo is loud as fuck, and deep into power clip which is the way to roll.

I had a Dual, and then a Single. Like ericsabbath said, the punch comes sooner on the 100 watt'ers, but I preferred the texture of the Single recto. It was smoother (to me) and sounded better with the gain set lower that the dual recto.

things got FAT with the the single recto on red, mid gain, + the petrucci dreamscape pedal. I loved it.

This is true as far as volume goes, but not feel. Even at quiet levels, the dual and especially the triple have a different feel. Hard to describe, just punchier and solid.

So less punchy I'm hearing. How about channel cloning? IIRC the 2 channel rectos had an option to make the "clean" channel more like the red channel??????? If this is the case, did the single recto have the same option?

no, no channel cloning, no bold/spongy...its pretty bare bones. but you have clean and pushed on the green channel, and raw, vintage, and modern on the red. on a Version 2 anyway. ive played mine, and a friends Triple, and honestly they sounded very similar with the same settings and at around the same volume. the Triple did seem a little punchier, and i suppose thats normal considering it has 100 more watts of power! and im sure that the triple and dual would be more solid in the low end at high volumes, but the Single is no slouch. when i was jamming with some buddies it kept up with the drummer and my other half stack (Peavey Ultra Plus and a 4x12). in all actuality, i think it gave nothing away to the 120 watt peavey. so the little 50 watt Mesa has plenty of power to stand toe to toe with higher wattage rigs easily.

its a great amp...and i like the bare bones approach. sure, i could probably have some fun with a dual or triple and all the other options they have, but it sounds awesome just as it is. plug right in, crank it up, and have fun. i never had a problem with it falling apart at high volumes. it sure did "feel" better when it was louder, and sound better. and it was LOUD. such an awesome amp...

Yeah it just seems like I remember dudes raving about the the Singles when the 3 channel rectos came out, and claimed they were closer to the 2 channel amps. 50watts is plenty of power for the most part. I don't consider Rectos very tight amps anyway, and I don't even consider that part of their "thing." Thanks for all the responses. I just saw one locally on the cheap, and it made me think it would be an inexpensive, but useable jam room amp, so I won't have to worry about breaking my UL again when we are having one of our rowdy, re-live the 70's, 80's and 90's with my older buddies.  I still am trying to swing the Herbert or Uber, but I could snap the Single Recto on the super cheap right away while still putting together the funds for the Diezel or Bogner. They would be my "real" back up amp for my UL. Anywho, I digress.............

The headroom of the Triple is intoxicating.
Nothing I've ever played compares.
I love Marshall and Fender varieties as well, but for balls to the wall the Mesa is killer.

With Marshall's, the 50 watters tend to be warmer and thicker in the middle, but with less thump and high/low extension than the 100 watters. Wonder if the same generally is true with the Rectos. I picked up a Triple a week or so ago for an absurd price and am absolutely loving it, but the tube rectifier is a must for me, unless the Single's voicing were inherently warmer because of its power section.

Yeah I agree. I remember the first time I heard one. We were co-headlining with this band called Fall From Grace, (not the same band as the current versions of bands with this name), and the guitarist had a blackface, chrome chassis triple. He used two Randall 4x12 cabs loaded with Jaguar speakers, and CRANKED that triple like crazy! He had a crazy cool sound at that volume that you can only get when pushing 8x12's super hard. I remember him telling me he used the channel clone thing rather than running a clean sound. Speaking of which, I don't remember personally, (it's been friggin years since I played one), but how close does the channel clone feature make the 2 channels sound like each other????? Does it give you a reasonable/usable 2nd dirty channel????? My Ultra Lead has gobs of headroom as well with the KT88's though, even though it's technically rated slightly below a triple.

I have a single rectifer rectoverb and my main complaint about it is the effects loop blows. My delay doesn't sound right through it. That and for an amp called the rectoverb, the reverb is pretty darn weak on the gain channels. Works fine on the cleans.
Other than that, it's a very decent amp. Great clean. Loud as hell 50 watts. I never EVER had issues needing more volume. I was usually told to turn it down, haha! As has been mentioned though, my 100 watt Roadster has more headroom which results in a pretty substantial increase in punchiness/thump. Can definitely feel that extra 50 watts!
Also, a lot of people slag the rectos for being loose mushy amps but I never had issues with that. I did boost it though.

More headroom, rectifier options, and a better effects loop are the advantages of the duals to me.

Thanks. I actually pretty much never use loops tbh, and my UL has one of, if not the best loop ever. The one I was looking at didn't have reverb, and I wouldn't want it anywho. This would just be a cool jam room amp for me and my friends to semi abuse without having to resort to some nasty, cheap SS amp.

If you can get that good a deal on it, I say go for it. My situation is similar to yours, so for me it makes a killer back up jam amp for my buddies. That's exactly why I've kept mine.
