Holy cow!!! The tone I was getting was great. I had so much fun tinkering around with the bands and boost on the Furman. I was able to get the same tone as my preamp pedals and distortion pedals get…but with more versatility!! I am beginning to think that the PQ-3 or PQ-6 is something every guitar player should own. The only downfall with the Furman is the noise, but my ISP Decimator took care of that. Big thanks to MrDan666 for giving me the hint to try it. I may need to break out my video camera to give a taste of the tone

Dave!!

I knew you would love it :D  The PQ-3 is the greatest boost ever made IMO. It can pretty much be tweaked to sound like anything and leaves any of my other boost pedals redundant. The PQ-6 is just like two PQ-3's together, so thats gotta be even better!! :D

The downside is obviously for live use, you need some kind of switcher to kick it on or off, and obviously it needs a gate too. But really thats a not a big deal to me, i have used the PQ-3 every single time iv played live now!!

I personally use an EQ up front and an EQ in the loop (front is graphic while the loop is parametric). Works great for me.

I don't really see much of a point using something like that in front of a high gain amp. The pq3 is cool for getting modded marshal tones out of a stock marshall.

Have you tried it infront of a high gain amp like a Boogie MK series or a Cameron Marshall?

You just dial back the gain on the amp a little bit, then use the PQ3 infront for a nice boost. It really opens up the tone and gives you a lot more control over the tone too :)

It doesnt have to be for adding huge amounts of gain either, sometimes i run it very low boosting only maybe 3-4db on each band.

Whats funny is i usually do the opposite Tommy!! Parametric infront and a graphic in the loop!

Yeah I have a cameron aldrich mod and the input of that amp runs so hot I don't see the point in boosting it. It just takes away dynamics and makes it sound smaller alot of the time.

If you want the ultimate parametric, try to find one of these guys;

I had a PQ3 and it was cool but pretty noisy and seemed to suck some tone when bypassed. The TC is much quieter and virtually transparent. Works great as a straight gain boost too.

If you have a really high gain Aldrich, then i can see your point. Some are much gainier than others.. my old Aldrich had about the same amount of gain as my HG Jose does, but the HG Jose feels easier to play when plugged straight in dry.

Doesnt make sense does it? The HG Jose is only 3 gainstages and the Aldrich is 4! Yet my Jose feels gainier than the Aldrich ever did!

The reason I do it the way I do it is because my MultiValve has a parametric EQ function built-in, and I have a Fish n Chips. Since I can't run the MultiValve out front, I run the Fish n Chips for the boost, and use the MultiValve for the tone shaping.

My Aldrich has a ton of gain, but I still like the versatility of using a pedal in front (or PQ :D ). I really want to gat a high gain Jose. I played a Jose before and it was next to my ALdrich. I thought the Aldrich killed it.

See thing is all of Mark's mods differ tonally, so there's some Jose's that are insane and some are just average. Same with Aldrich mods too!

Chances are you have a very good sounding one  I didnt like my old Aldrich anywhere near as much as my HG Jose. To be honest i have heard better sounding Aldrich's than my old one anyway, so it just goes to show some are incredible and some are just average-good. :)

And your Jose is a good one :D

It is killer!!! If i could make some clips i would, but dont have any recording stuff to do it with. Randy K (Rufus Leaking) did some killer clips with it though, il have to find the link!

Hmmm... I'll have to try my Boss parametric EQ pedal again in front of my Camerons...

What settings / cut / boost are you guys using?

A nice boost of somewhere between 800Hz and 1000Hz, bandwidth at noon and boosting by about 12-14dB

Thats the main upper mid boost which is the most important when i use the PQ3

This is how I do it with the more "Marshall-esque" amps I've owned. I love it. I think every guitarist should try this.

I boosted

100K 50% bandwith only 6db
1000k 80% bandwith 12db
4000k 75% bandwith 15db

Had the overall volume at about 5.

What was the preamp and master volume on the aldrich set at?

i been boosting with my pq3 lately too. great tool. they work great in loops too

The first gain knob was set to 8 and the second gain knob was set to 5. the 3 way switch was set to left which is more mesa like. The Q was set to 9 o'clock and the bass boost was at 3 o'clock.

Presence 2, bass 8, mids 4, treble 5.5

Master at 1 to 2.

Q control ? As in bandwidth on a parametric EQ ?
