I guess i shouldnt be surprised. I read an interview yesterday. ( think it was from a GW email).

Hes using modded new jcm 800s.

Im fine with that

I just wish the sig gear madness would stop.

Has Slash ever really used his Marshall signature amps?

Anyone I know that played one said they were pretty anemic and just didn't measure up tone wise.

He never played one!

It's the same story with Nuno and his Randall's. All the years only JCM 2000 DSL.

But I would like to know something about these mods.

I was under the impression, on the last tour cycle he was using AFD 100s and Jcm 800s together.guess its all just bullshit. And im a little disappointed for not knowing better.

I think he had the AFD's out on the road WITH the 800's but more and more he ended up switching in the 800's. Not sure as to whether or not he had the 800's modded to his #34 spec or not. ( a few tweaks for gain). If I were a betting man, i'd guess that the newer "modded" 800's are probably the 34 mod with a bit of tweaking. He then uses a boost for leads like he did in the old days with the EQ pedals and the jubilees.

Agreed on the signature madness... what's the point if they aren't going to play it?

So Nuno NEVER played those Randalls? Always thought he put some time on them before secretly going back to the JCM2000's.

He's only using the Randall cabs.
And knowing the fact about this fact it's fun to watch the vids where he pretends using them only. And that we have to believe him because he wouldn't put his name on it if he wouldn't play it.

Bla bla bla

I had heard that he is demoing a possible new amp for marshall? I hope so... they are already making the jcm 800 chassis and 1959slp models why not just mod those with the 34 or whatever and they would sell the shit out of them... plus the build quality wouldn't be shitty anymore. Whoever is running things at marshall now does not listen to the street, at least not in this country. They would have seen how many friedmans, suhrs, bogners etc are being sold!

My afd100 never sounded full enough until you turned up stupid
Loud. It left very very quickly after my first cameron

Kerry King loves his sig. I still haven't had a chance to try one.

Slash allegedly recorded with the AFD100 on his previous album. After owning one for a short period and seeing him play a live shoe I was convinced he didn't actually use them live because the sound was sufficiently different.

That Slash is using JCM800's on his latest album and not the AFD isn't such a surprise although the AFD does look cool.

+1

I'll never understand why so many manufacturer make better Marshall than Marshall. I don't believe they don't know how to do it.

A good rule of thumb is that any player that has a sig amp generally does not get their iconic tone from said amp. It's a chicken and an egg problem. Person with tons of talent takes a good piece of gear makes some classic music with it, wannabes want "that" sound, after several records, tours, negotiations, manufacturing details, etc, etc, the hype machine starts pumping out sig gear that is essentially trying to get the tone of a hand selected or modified version of something that already exists in the wild; if the artist uses it their tone changes, if they don't use it people feel ripped, it's lose/lose much of the time.

At least Eddie used the 5150 but anyone buying one hoping for instant brown sound was bummed. How many signature amps did Dimebag have? I lost count... Dimebag tone still == a correct era Randall RG100ES and an EQ.

Didn't Slash use the Marshall Jubilee amps for years and years?

Thought so.

But yes, this whole signature / endorsement BS has to stop. So many bands endorse so many things and don't use the gear live or in the studio. I get the need for a payday but do they feel the least bit conflicted when players that idolize them buy this signature / endorsed gear because of the idolization and aren't getting the real deal? We all know that there's a ton of impressionable and not researched players out there. Hell when I was 15, was I looking for what gear guys were really using behind the scenes live? Hell no, I was looking at pictures of those guys in guitar magazines standing beside amps, pedals, guitars etc.

I owned the AFD100 for 2 weeks

One trick pony, and the trick wasn't too impressive.
Glad I bought it though... got it for cheap knowing people would pay stupid money for one

Its even worse in the supplement industry... younger guys thinking you can maintain 6 percent body fat and have 21 inch arms with striations using protein powder and creatine!
