Still looking at SLO's here. Curious how you guys like mods (depth mod, Haynes mod, etc). Do these mods greatly improve the SLO, or just so so ?

They give you some more flexibility I guess. I'm the second owner of mine and it came with the depth, Haynes, scoop & half power mods. I never use any of them, if something happened to it I would replace it with a stock one. I've never done a side-by-side to compare my modded one with stock, but I don't think you would see a radical difference between them with the mods bypassed/defeated.

Mine's stock, and I wouldn't change it. I can't imagine it sounding better than it does already.

Appreciate those responses. Anyone on here think the mods change the amp dramatically?

When I first got mine I was running it with 2 tubes pulled through a GB loaded 1936 cab.
I thought it really needed the depth Mod so I took it over to Mike.
For sure gave it a lot more bottom end with this set up.

Now I have (2) Soldano 2x12 cabs running the full 100 watts and have the depth mod completly off and the Bass on 3.
Any more and it is just too much.

So I would say overall no need for the depth mod unless your playing through a small cab.

I run my SLO at 100 watts, bass on 5 usually through 2x12. Plenty of low end for me.

I would never hold off on a SLO because of mods. They don't do anything to drastic to effect the tone.

the only mod that i really like is the depth mod.

not because it adds low end

but becuase i feel that you can really fine tune the feel of the amp.

most immediate and percussive feel and attack with the depth all the way off.

more chewey and more squish with higher depth settings

also seems to add more low mids too.

very helpful in dialing in consistant sounds with different cabs and speakers.

most of the time i run mine off or very low if playing at loud volumes

does beef things up quite a bit at low volumes though.

The scoop mod is great if you wanna play clean.
The depth mod is a must for high gain tones IMO and the loop bypass makes an awesome amp even better, more dynamic and "open" sounding.
Here's a little comparison I did:
