SLO prices!!

I'm holding out for a new one.

Mike Soldano is still very much involved and with BAD's resources I'm sure the new SLO 2 with the improved effects loop should be Killer!

From a source close to the development process I was told they should be available sometime next year!

It is pretty crazy how overpriced they’ve become, although I think much of the Fortin stuff in the past was even worse (like with the 33, Meshuggah or the way overhyped Natas). I liked the SLO, but for my taste there’s much better amps out there than the SLO that can be had for less like the Wizards or Cameron stuff. They make SLO’s obsolete imo and sent the SLO I used to have packing

I stupidly traded it though for a Cherry Bomb and overdrive pedal and took a big loss on the Cherry Bomb (the Cherry Bomb has a lot of praise at the time, so I was curious). That was by far the worst trade I ever made, but I couldn’t even sell it for $2400 at the time (in 2014). Few guys showed any interest when I had it listed, yet now all of sudden guys want em bad since they’re discontinued

I’d even take the Gower‘s and some of the Friedman modded Marshall’s I’ve had in the past over the SLO. Nice amps, but imo some of the most overrated out there currently along with the Fortin’s (at least the ones I’ve tried (Natas and Meshuggah))

SLO is a great amp but not for everyone. It's kinda soft/slow/brown. Awesome for lead work but just doesn't track fast or tight enough for me. Beautiful sound for what it does, though.

Sold it years ago because I preferred an old 2204 and an SD-1. My only regret is that I didn't just toss it in the closest so I could sell it now for lots of money.

The SLO was one of my all time favorite amps before getting into Wizards and Cameron modded Marshall’s, so not saying it’s not great, just that it’s now been outclassed by other amps, even for playing leads, which is definitely one of its fortes. My Cameron Atomica modded Marshall and Jose modded 78 SLP easily smoke the SLO I had for leads and for slower melodic leads my ‘80 Jim Kelley has been head and shoulders above anything else I’ve tried so far

I would also take a 2203/4 boosted over a SLO easily. Honestly, very few amps are as good or better than that for high gain

I usually agree with your takes, but I'm gonna slightly disagree on some points...the SLO and Wizards are the only amps that I've had that have a similar 'bloom' at volume..not any modded Marshall has that, and I've had 6-7 Cams, a few Friedman Marshalls and one from most of the other big names other than a real deal Jose A. I won't say the SLO is something that I miss; I get what I need in the Marshall camp from an 82 2204 and a boost through a G12 65 or vintage 19741960a w/original GBs. But, that 'bloom' the SLO has is only equalled/surpassed by a Wizard. D60/120 can come close, but those 2 are above the rest. Maybe 'punch' is a better term. My C+ Coliseum is a beast at 180w but even though it is incredibly loud it doesn't punch like a Wizard or SLO.

It sounds like it may be a difference in semantics here because I think of punch and bloom as 2 different things that don’t always correlate. Maybe what you mean is the amp moving more air?

If so, then yes I can see the SLO beating 3 of the 5 Cameron modded Marshall’s I’ve had, but not the 2 that I still have which are an Atomica modded SLP and a 3 channel Jose/Aldrich/Plexi modded ‘78 SLP. The 3 channel one sounds bigger than my Wizard MTL, but doesn’t punch as hard and isn’t anywhere near as tight and the Atomica modded one sounds about equally big to my MTL, although the MTL punches still harder, but it’s close-ish

I owned a ‘96 Wizard MCI and SLO at the same time and the Wizard sounded a lot bigger and punchier

I think guys who like the SLO would also love the Mezzabarba Mzero Overdrive. I remember the one I had sounding like a bigger, more evil, pissed off SLO with a bit of Marshall in there too and more low mids than an SLO. It would probably at this point also be half the price used of what SLO’s are now. I sold mine though because I felt the Atomica was better and that the Mzero couldn’t do anything I couldn’t get out of my Atomica or MTL. Still a great amp though

I guess in punchiness my 2016 Wizard MTL 100 would probably have the most of that of any amp I’ve played, but in terms of sounding big and filling the room, my Blueface VH4 and old Hiwatt DR103 would be the 2 best I’ve had in that regard followed by that 3 channel Cameron I mentioned before and then probably the Wizard MTL. I still need to try a Larry though

The only thing I miss about my SLO is the $2k I left on the table when I sold it about a week before Mike called it quits.
Nice amp, but even before the recent price bump, I thought it was too much money tied up in one amp for what it brought to the table....
I had a Wizard MCII and an MTL at the time ( still have the MCII ) and for me it was a no-brainer to move out the SLO.

I expect the prices to drop when the SLO2 and SLO30 come out.

I am glad I got my HR25 before the big price hike, now they are listed for $2500, which is what they went for new. Not sure if people are buying at that price, but that is the listing.

It will be interesting to see when the SLO30 comes out if it offers enough changes for me to sell the HR25 and get it. By that time though, I expect the pre-BAD Soldanos to come down to more reasonable levels. It really depends on whether people will value the pre-BAD Soldanos more or embrace the BAD Soldanos. No way to know at this point.

I don’t think much will change. There was a lot of speculation before Mike closed shop that prices wouldn’t skyrocket, but they did. Regardless of how close the SLO II is going to be, it still ain’t going to be an original. It’s just not. I’m not saying the prices will never go down, but so far, seems this forum has been mostly wrong about used SLO prices.

Even in a world full of Camerons, Jose's, and Friedman's.., I LOVE the sound of my 2204 pushed with an OD and double stacked with another clean boost when needed. I find it such a clean drive and not as fizzy as some of the higher gainers. Those amps sound great but for most of us, that shitty yellow SD-1 all day into a 2204 is gonna get the job done and sound nice and tight. Want Randy? Disto + and EQ , want Jake? OD-1. Want Malmsteen ? DOD or DOD clone and crank it with single coils. Blackmore? Treble boost it. Love the 2204, best amp ever made.

If I had to pick one of my 2 amps, the 2204 stays. I have a rare 2C+ KRG Coliseum 1X15 combo; one of less than 90 in the world. Rarest of all the C+ models. Still, it would go and the Marshall stays. It is the sound of Rock, at least the Rock I grew up listening to. As you mentioned, just put a different flavor boost in front and you have a totally new tone.

RigTalk comment about any amp, in this case the SLO:

"I liked my SLO until I got my ____________, so I traded it for a modded __________ which sounded good with my _____________. It wasn't until I got my ______that I realized how good my _______ was, so I flipped it and got my ____________ which sounds great with my ________"
