If you run the gain low try removing the bright cap. As somebody else mentioned it also darkens with the power section running hard so try an attenuator and crank that bad boy!!!

Guess I'll chime in a second time, this time on speakers. Played a SLO with V30s, 70s G12Hs, 70s G12Ms, and what must have been T75s.

T75s were harsh and scooped. Honestly could see it working for some types of metal, but my least favorite. Didn't like the G12Hs. Scooped and zingy high end. G12M and V30s sound awesome to me. Aggressive with plenty of bass and controlled high end. V30s have their obvious nasally voice, which I've always gotten along with fine, but the G12M would be my preference.
Agreed. Especially with G12H , I do not like them with a SLO.

Oh, forgot a few: a Soldano cab with whatever Eminence speakers it had. Strangely dark and dull. Completely took away what I love about the SLO, which is so strange given that I assume they're intended to go together.

And a Mesa open-back 4x12 (strange little cab...) with C90s. Sounded OK, but lacked the "character" and grind of the other Celestions. But not a terrible match-up. Very controlled high end. Not much sizzle happening there.

My Soldano 4x12 came with the Eminence made Soldano X12000 speakers. I don't know if they were not broken in yet (I bought the cab used), but it sounded like a wet blanket was covering the speaker cabinet. Very dark, dull, and I had to turn all the control knobs way up to get a marginal sound. Any amp I played through that cab sounded dull and just plain terrible. Could not bond with those speakers at all. Since then have run Scumbacks with great results, and then V30s, and now Lynchbacks mixed with Eminence GB Legends. I can definitely say the X12000 speakers are not my cup of tea.

Throw some good 6L6's in there and bias them up. While your doing that, toss in the depth mod, it's quick and easy to do.
