You know if Matsushita in Japan would entertain making their EL-34's again that would really be something to get excited about but im afraid that ship has sailed.
I remember 15+ years ago i had 2 JMP 2203's one with EL-34's and one with 6550's.
I bought SED =C= for both and man what a sound.
I still have a quad of old GT 6550's.
The new tube market is so narrow in scope.
Back in early 80's Marshall tubed their JCM 800 2203 & 2204 / 2205 & 2210's with Czech Teslas and then they went out of business.
I have a Mazda silver anode that I sometimes put in v1 on my Brown. It's very nice.

Can any of you tube snobs point to a YouTube vid or something that demonstrates the difference in sound between tubes?

Here's a pair of NOS Sylvania 6CA7's I got recently, in my JCM800.

Preamp tubes are all NOS GE 12AX7s

I'm not a tube snob. And you can't even get a YT video to demonstrate the glaring difference between a Chinese V30 and a British V30 or the difference between two wildly different sets of pickups.

Verbally explaining the difference between my RCA 6V6 Blackplates and some Groove Tubes or other bullshit is difficult. Words like warmth, grind and sag come to my head, but those words probably don't adequately explain it. Obviously preamp tubes are more noticeable in their differences and to me something like run of the mill JJs compared to old, high quality Sylvanias, Mullards, Bugle Boys, etc. are like the anology I used earlier about the old 80s Peavey amps compared to a bad ass, say 1978, JCM800. And within those NOS options are subtle differences in tone, sag and feel. All I know is when I put the Blackplates and the Cream 90 in my '61 Brown Deluxe it became the amp I always wanted it to be. And that amp has never had anything in the pre other than NOS stuff as far as I know.

It's also that the old amps I have were designed to be run with those tubes obviously and modern PCB amps are designed to run with modern tubes.

Here's a YT video that somehow does give a suitable representation of what I feel is stellar tone, though it is more than just the tubes that are responsible for it. It's the amps, the cabs, the Clapton modded Tele with the Strat neck and of course Clapton's hands. Particularly the solo.

Euro Bob used to have a video factory tour of the current JJ facility. On that video they claim to pay some employees with Vodka & bags of rice.
IDK how many of you have been in the Military or travel abroad but Eastern block countries aint like Iowa.

What tubes was he using ?

Check out his kit. His toms and snare are all set up level. Very unusual. And a double bass which was fairly unusual for the time. Monster player. He's one of those you either love or hate.

This was post Cream and when Clapton and Windwood decided to start Blind Faith they purposely didn't tell Ginger because of all the drama they knew he would bring. Mostly Clapton as he just went through all kinds of bullshit with him with the demise of Cream. He found out by some other way and just showed up with his shit as if everything was normal. Never said a word about it. Blind Faith was very short lived.
