EVH 50 watter looks good. What else is there? Don't want a full size head.

Carvin Legacy 3.

What do you mean Full Sized Head?

Wattage?

Otherwise the Diezel D-Moll/Paul, and the Mesa JP2C are smaller footprint heads with three channels and midi.

How's the loop on that Legacy?

For reference, my DMoll: awesome; EVH 50w: great; OR100: noisy

Diezel DMoll and Mesa JP2C would be my picks as well.

It looks like for the money the EVH will be hard to beat.

While I have the EVH myself and having owned the V3M (sold it with no regrets after hearing and buying the Engl Ironball),
the Legacy 3 still seems very interesting, and it's the same price as the EVH.

I never played one myself though...
it's a big-glass amp (no EL84's), has on-board reverb and a footswitchable boost.
So, purely function-wise I'd say that's the one to beat, but I'm pretty sure it won't get the saturated high gain chunk of the EVH though...
it lacks the footswitchable fx-loop that the EVH has...that's a thingy for me. And Mesa JP2C's are shit expensive in Europe (>$4k!).

Only down-side is the lack of a really decent clean channel on the EVH.

nobody likes the green? Or is it just the shared 1/2 issue?
mods for Dual gain and Volume or totally needed on this amp to give a solid 3 channels

Yeah, you can get a DC mod on the 1/2 channel to get separate gain levels, but that's an addition to the amp (not stock, which is sort of lame). You have to gain the clean channel up to get volume out of it. That being said, the crunch/lead channels sound great, and ch. 2 cleans up 'ok' w/guitar, but the lack of no good clean drives me batty.

I have the 50w but bought it new & shipped>right to Kruse in CA for mods.
Kruse is awesome but I think most quality techs can do a dual gain/volume mod
The blue is fantastic but it would drive me crazy to find a decent balance on 1/2 stock

I'd be curious about some feedback on the Carvin Legacy as well. I've read some bad reviews, but it still seems like it would be a pretty cool amp.

Pulled the trigger on a mint used EVH 50 watter from GC. Liking it so far.

Congrats!

Yeah, if you drop 2 5751's in V3 and V4, your red channel with Gain on 3 is more hard rock than metal, but bring it to 5 and you're in Chugg-land again. I think I put one NOS Sylvania and one JJ 5751 in there ....and replace the PI tube with a Sovtek 12AX7LPS.
By the way, I don't know if there's a V30 in your Mesa cab, but the EVH comes alive with G12H30 55Hz to bring some more chewy character...that is, if you want that.
I played my 5150III once on a Marshall 1960BX cab (old one, with Greenbacks, well broken-in) and that was awesome too. Lots of punch, but a nicer rounder top end, as these amps get really bright fast. I never run my Presence over 11 'o clock.

its not a lunch box but new Mesa Triple Crown , 3 ch clean lo gain hi gain MIDI ,Reverb
