Does the bright switch get disengaged at some point when the gain reaches a certain level on the amp? I am curious on how this works and how it effects drive pedals?
I think it is just a three position bright switch which gives the Plexi channel three different voicings. It has no effect on the BE channel. It is always on and not affected by overdrive pedals as far as I know.
The bright switch allows higher frequencies to bypass the serial resistance in the gain pot. When the gain is at max, there is no serial resistance to bypass. Consequently the bright switch is "out of the circuit" when gain is at max (and gradually becomes more effective as you dial back the gain).

The gain on my Plexi channel is always maxed, but I can still hear a difference with the bright switch positions. I will have to try backing the gain down to see if it has even more of an effect.
