Small clip of me getting Vai-alated at Steve Vais pad

I dig how the three Grammies are displayed above the pedal drawers.

Wow, that is awesome! What amp was he playing through? I saw him last year and although he has the legacy 3's on stage, he also has the L1. Speculation is that he only uses the 1, but he gets some tones that aren't quite in the 1 (which I have). Most notably, the rolled off middle section of "the moon and I".

I must admit, I'm no expert on the Legacy's, but I know he used the 1st version head for our jam. Had a more condensed pedal board to than I've seen on some vids. He was running through the axe Fx for 'effects'. The axe FX did freeze up on him in mid jam though. Also, when it was time to 'tune up' at the start of the jam, he had the same small TC electronic clip on the headstock tuner that I did. I tuned up and was ready in about 60 seconds time, looked up at Steve and he was still on his 6th string, tweaking things down to the micron! I went back and spent more time tuning mine to not look dumb. He took about 6 or 7 minutes to tune up. Dude likes to have his shit dead on balls!!

This will most likely be the coolest thing I read/hear about all week. Congrats, man!! I can't wait to check these vids out!

very cool dude! Nice playing and what an awesome experience!

If memory serves, you did the same type of thing with Steve a while back. I watched you video many times and was very impressed on how you jammed with him man. Actually, before heading out do do this, I had to psych myself up to get my nerves in check, and I kept reminding myself of your video as an example that one can indeed play with Vai and be relaxed and collected about it.

Man, just an awesome story all the way around. Very cool you and your brother have a relationship again.

yeah I went to a 3 day Steve Vai guitar camp in Vail, CO. Interestingly enough I went with a cousin who I had not had contact with for some time. It was a blast and Vai was so nice and cool. He encouraged everyone to get up and jam with him at some point during the camp. it was very cool and surreal! again kudos to you man, you ripped!

As for the Legacy questions-

Vai hasn't used anything but the V1 Legacy's as of yet. He had the Legacy 3's onstage for the last tour, but they weren't plugged in. Someone asked him at an EVO session why he wasn't using them and he said he didn't have enough time before the tour to get used to them.

I'm surprised, actually, because he's quite frugal when it comes to touring and I'm surprised he'd even bother to bring the Legacy 3 heads out if he weren't using them, but I suppose the road is a great place to test them out during soundchecks and whatnot.

I kick my own ass regularly for getting rid of my V1 head, but have yet to try a Legacy 2 or 3 to compare it to, I just know the 3 has MIDI channel changing and the 3rd channel in Vai's demo sounded pretty fucking good.

Incredible video...you can def hang with that guy playing wise...good stuff

...and i feel a lot better about my own slight bald spot now that Steve has a bit of hair loss himself.

I picked up on Steve's new religion as well, 'Thindu'.
I just hope he doesn't go all Satch bald on us. Not sure how he would look that way, but here is a looksee at what could be.

Well just to echo what everyone else said, the whole story and your jam was just plain awesome. What an unbelievable experience. I live in VT and a woman I worked with here for many years lived near Vai when they were young and she said he was always really close to her family and they'd remained in touch for many years. Your story here sure echoes a lot of what she told me about him .. So cool. He's always been 1 of my guitar idols and I've seen him in concert quite a few times but surely wouldn't have had the cojones you had to jam!!!! Eric

What a great experience! Don't think I've ever seen a bad report of someone meeting Vai either, he seems like an all round good egg. I may have missed this, but how did your bro hook you up with the lesson? Does he know someone who knows someone etc..., or through his business contacts?

Great palying too, especially in that context!
