Do any of you guys have any advice on something like this? With oil prices the way they have been I literally sit and surf the internet all day 8 hours a day here at work. If I could find a semi small guitar that I could pick on while I'm at my desk and be able to hide when the boss walk by I wouldn't be so damn bored all day. Not an acoustic, has to be an electric type.

I saw those. Not sure how it would work without any note feedback. I'm thinking about one of those guitars that was on back to the future. Just not sure how they play. I really wouldn't need and amp. I play my electric at home with no amp all the time.

I have a Fernandez Nomad at the office. I never turn on the built-in amp, but it's a fun guitar. At least the one I have is a full-sized scale (24.75").

Funny you mentioned the back to the future guitar....

I had a Chiquita (the guitar in question) and a rockman in a tiny gig bag back in the late 80s. Kept it in the trunk or back seat of my car along with a gorilla amp that could be plugged into the cig liter. The guitar needed super heavy strings to handle the jack hammer right hand without going sharp, but it was a kick ass rig that went to many a party. Can't begin to estimate how many pounds of powder were inhaled off the back of that little guitar. Texting a bro who was my other guitarist at that time to reminisce about it now. We both had the same set up. LMAO!!

How do they play compared to a full sized guitar? Would practicing on one a lot translate to a full size pretty easily?

I'm assuming since your location is Houston and you mention oil prices, you must be in the patch too. I work for a directional service provider in the Rockies. Hopefully we are turning the corner now and things are picking up again.

If you consider that the Chiquita is essentially half the size of a regular guitar, then you are basically playing from the 12th fret up of a regular scale guitar. But frets are frets and strings are strings,so it may cramp your style but everything still transposes the same. It's one thing to want a guitar for playing songs,it's another to want something to noodle on or practice your scales and techniques. This would be the latter if your that fussy. If your not that fussy, you can play anything on it and have a blast. This isn't something I would overthink. If you don't think you want a mini, then get a student sized guitar of some kind, they are cheap.

^^this

I really like mine. Been using it for about 8 years now. The built in drum machine is a great tool for practicing also.

Well I was at guitar center today and they had a mini strat. Looked cool and is the perfect size but man it sucked! Wouldnt stay in tune at all. I wonder if I just spent some time with it and set it up if it would be ok. Only $99. Guess I could always return it.
