The bypass is good because even with no effect hooked up there are active components in the signal path. There is likely an LMD150 mosfet or similar in the path prior to the send jack and another after the return jack. The loop is a series loop so you entire signal goes through the loop circuit even if you have nothing plugged in. These are always in path unless you have a bypass switch. The loop is between the treble and the volume pot from a path standpoint. The switch would we a way to simply switch/short the loop out of the circuit. The loop is extremely transparent, but some people prefer to have it there none the less.
