Rockett Archer!

This ... been using it with my BE-100 and it works really well. I love my Maxons SD9, OD808, OD808X ... but the Archer does edge them out a bit.

If you want to add gain AND tighten the amp up, I would suggest clean boosting it with an OD pedal. If you do NOT want to alter the tone or feel in any way, you just want more of what it's already doing, I suggest the MK.4.23 by Creation Audio Labs. Such a great pedal. Does not alter your tone in the least bit. Just takes your amp to the next level with no coloration. http://shop.creationaudiolabs.com/MK423 ... K423-1.htm

Most of the time when boosting a distorted sound I like to add an element of tightening as well. Both versions of the Koko have worked well as well as most TS variants. My favorite of the TS lot is the Rockett Blue Note.

Koko Boost or Klon Centaur. I´ve got Xotic EP and Analogman King of tone as well but I think they sound better with the clean channel.

I just bought a Smallbox which should be here next week. I have a Maxon OD808 and DOD 250 pedal on my board. Has anyone here used a DOD overdrive with a Friedman? I have a couple Malmsteen Strats so I doubt I will have much trouble getting some Yngwie tones out of the Friedman using a Strat and the DOD gray 250 pedal.

Is adding another gain stage to the small box an option?I know the vibe is a more vintage voice of the BE channel with the SB,the BE100 is a more compressed gain structure with an added gain stage? Not to take away from the build and vibe of the smallbox, maybe that is not cool to impose such a thought on a true piece of timeless sonic art!Or is a pedal the same result?I am old school and seem to be stuck in one cable one guitar land! go Angus!!!

I sent Dave an email asking pretty much the same question. If I could have a gain stage added to convert the BE channel to a dedicated HBE channel it would be perfect for my needs! I never heard back from him though.......may of offended him! I guess I shouldn't mess with the mans designs! :D

I've only had my SB for a couple of weeks, but to take it into HBE territory, I've been using the Timmy Boost.

I also sent him an email about having mine modded, but not exactly adding the HBE, something more like having the SAT or C45 toggle/feature added (it's pretty damned perfect with regards to gain for me, just like the idea of the added option instead of gassing it with a pedal). I never heard back either but I doubt he'd be insulted! He's no doubt a busy dude is all.

Man I'd try again... maybe he was just busy or it fell though the cracks. He's got to be crazy busy....

I emailed about a used BE100 I was looking at to ask about bringing it to current - adding "full clean". I got a response in a few hours, looked like he responded from his Iphone! The guy I bought my cab from has a BE that Dave added a again reduction switch too... I think Dave LIKES to mod stuff. ;) That's how he got to where he is! :D

I asked Dave about this too and he responded and said it could not be done. I am not sure of the technical reasons why, but I am glad I did not change anything on my Smallbox. I have spent more time with it now and it is perfect the way it is. I have a couple great overdrive pedals and a compressor if I want to add more gain. The Smallbox brings the best out of my pedals.

I appreciate the replies to this,I had used a burnely for a while with a vox and it was very impressive, the maxon od9 is worth a try,as mentioned by several and we all know its rep is solid. The Suhr reloaded i was digging on with its versatile cleanboost/od option and the 3 position midrange toggle.I am so new to anything other than pre-amp distortion, sorry to be such a newb

Edited: Meant to post in a different thread, not sure how it ended up in this one. Damn phone...

No you can't add a gain stage to the small box. Just no room really.

Thanks Dave. I was one of the guys who asked you about this and now I am glad I left things alone. The amp brings out the best in all of my pedals, including my overdrives and compressor if I want to get gain crazy. The Smallbox's BE channel has plenty of gain on tap.

Ok,so now that I have the smallbox it's all GOOD,digging the vintage plexi and be voicings..It has been mentioned by the smallbox can't add another gain stage"that being said. The be100 is a more modern based gain structure, more bass and more compressed...unless I missed something,if so please slap me!:) is it possible to achieve that type of gain structure by boosting or adding a pedal in front or in the loop?OR would it be close but no cigar" be better suited to get the be100.GAS" :) I appologize if this is "lost in the modern era of available gear" type question.but being totally honest I have never used a pedal for a gain structure or voicing so I'm looking for the shortest route to acquire the modern gain, not so much a dropped tunning sound but a hairy brown eye gain. The amps I have are more modern voiced so this smallbox is titts and beer!!!!! Any advice would be most helpful....Thank you

Yeah, I get mine to sound real good with a BOSS Super Overdrive in front of it! Very 80's if that's your thing. I have an Ibanez TS808 coming today to try........Going back to the basics!
