I got frustrated and took a rather serious tone about this order, but Brad King got in touch with Rob at Tone Merchants, and they both took care of me. They deserve a good word about their service, so take note of it if you are in the market for new gear. Thanks Brad and Rob.
Now about the Smallbox...
First thing that caught my attention when I plugged it in was the plexi channel. I had a vintage plexi and a 1987x reissue, and the Smallbox REALLY nailed that kind of thing. It's a bit dryer and less jangly than my Marshalls, but very responsive, and the vintage plexi thing is spot on. It's really cool too because the 3-way bright switch (well really just 2 ways because one position is off), gets the perfect bright setting for a variety of tones without having to fiddle with jumping inputs and adjusting two volume knobs.
The gain channel is more along the lines of a Pink Taco than a Brown Eye. I think the BE100 has more bass and a little more gain too. The Smallbox mids seem to stand out a little more than the BE100. There is a perfect amount of gain for me so I think Friedman really dialed it in nicely.
The plexi channel is my favorite. You can dial in a variety of clean and crunch sounds. It seems to take FX pedals well from the input and the FX loop.
All I had time to take was a quick Ebay picture, but I'm sure everyone knows what it looks like by now.
