was just thinking of some guitar players I like that I don't hear much about. 1st ones that popped to mind were...

Gary Richrath - REO Speedwagon. I was hearing a tune on the radio and was thinking he was a solid player with really good souped up tone - especially for pre Van Halen.

Golden Earring - don't even know the guys name, but that outro solo to that Bullet Hits The Bone tune has some great fusiony sounding licks.

Ted Nugent - I've always been a fan of Ted since I first heard him when I was 8.

So what you guys got?
 
Ted Nugent, for sure.

Outside of the typical tone chasing and flashy solos, I love Antoine Dufour. I don't think I could ever play like him if I tried. Very refreshing to me.
 
Someone most of the guys here wouldn't think of as a good/great guitarist that I love is Melissa Etheridge. Great song writing, playing, feel, expression, dynamics, rhythm, etc... When I jump on an acoustic that is what I try to emulate.

Etheridge=ovation guitars=damn plastic bowl that keeps sliding down my knee despite my best efforts to hang on to the damn thing. Just the thought process that goes through my mind at the drop of her name. :lol: :LOL:

Hey, does Ian Thornley get much love in these parts? Never heard of him until I was turned on to Mr. Fortin's work. Such PHAT tone pumping through my speakers right now, nice slide'n on the slidey and uber tasteful solos when he chooses to cut lose. Favorite Canadian band thus far.
 
Ian Bairnson. (You have to Google for homework.) When I saw him live back in the hey-day of racks and MIDI he had a Bradshaw rack with both a JMP-1 AND a Triaxis. Unheard of for the time. Monster tone!

Gary from REO with his Les Paul tone was always on the radar as well.

Then there was Spider--always innovative and tasty.

I'll put Wing Commander Screamin' Steve Clark on there as well. Great, tasty riffs, and the balls to play an LP Jr. when it wasn't very "metal."

Oh, and can't forget Rik Emmett from Triumph.

Adrian Vandenberg (pre-Whitesnake) didn't get many props, but his records were solid. I think I wore through "Welcome to the Club" and "Headed for a Storm."

I saw her after that album - just her and her acoustic. Still the best artist I've ever seen.

How about Andy Taylor from Duran Duran? I thought he did a great job playing rock leads ala Bang a Gong from Power Station and the riff from Hungry Like a Wolf. Though he is not mentioned often on rock guitar forums, Brian Setzer is an incredible guitar player....
 
Keith Scott of Brian Adams...seriously under rated player. Great phrasing and tone...his playing on Cuts Like a Knife and It's only Love inspire me every time I hear them..
 
Thanks for sharing because I did not know his name. Cuts like a Knife has some great playing.
