So I sold my white Metropoulos 12000 series amp w/zero loss efx loop and PPIMV to a real nice dude in Dallas (I'm in SoCal). It was packed in the original box and with all the original foam etc. that George shipped it to me with. It was packed VERY well... should have survived whatever UPS had in store for it...

Well.... they destroyed the amp. Look at this. I'm so bummed. This was a great amp:

The buyer is being really cool with me, acknowledged it had been packed really, really, well. Says, I didn't do anything wrong. The thing is there doesn't look to be that much damage to the box? I don't see how this much damage was caused to the amp, it is crazy...

I've shipped at least a dozen amps before and never had a problem. I guess this was bound to happen. The buyer is following through with UPS on a claim. It was insured for the full price he paid for it... I guess we'll see what happens next... What a nightmare. I hat to see a work of art like this destroyed.

You should find the one thats is responsible for this and kill the mutha fucker!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im having the same issues with the last 2 shipments. One guy said he had a neighbor who witnessed the dude throwing my amp. They gave me some money back. Still....no excuse. I think some laws need to be implimented. if they cant handle the work load they should say so not things like "your amp needs to be able to survive a four foot fall." why jackass?? do your jobs right.

Buddy....I feel for you (and the buyer)!!!

I shipped an amp that was damaged in almost EXACTLY the same way, that also had very little (virtually no) damage to the box.

I know damage can happen with any carrier, but everytime I've had an issue, it's been UPS.

That sucks really bad!!

Not to bum you more but get ready for going round and round with them. They'll fight having to pay. Trust me I've been there.

I've had a few damaged. Tubes smashed, chassis bent, transformers crooked. Really sucks man and honestly just sours me on the whole shipping of amps due to these gorilla's. Absolutely ridiculous.

Man, that sucks. I had an Uberschall that took a whack on the way over here on the front of the chassis near the switch side. Those chassis aren't aluminum either. I picked glass out of it for several hours. Jorg at Bogner sent me a replacement face plate and I was able pound the chassis out myself. It was packed well and like yours, not much damage to the box and I was trying to figure out just how in the hell that damage could have been done.

What I was going to say was, maybe get in touch with George at Metro. He may be willing to help that brother out in getting the boards and component in a new chassis while waiting on UPS to get their shit together.

Steve

I had UPS destroy a vintage Marshall 4x12. It took 9 months to go through their claims process. that was the last time I used them. FedEx all the way!

I just had them damage a stereo I shipped. They took responsibility and paid in 4 weeks. It sucks but they came through. It may have helped that I shipped from the UPS store.

Good luck!

That's BULLSHIT.

It looks like the box was dropped on something right in the centre (almost like a pole, or the edge of a conveyor belt), which made it fold, and would explain the damage to the centre of the chassis. One big *BANG*, drop to the ground, and the box flexed back into place.

I am very interested to hear how this plays out. Can you update the thread, Steve?

Again, BULLSHIT!

I'm sure you shipped the amp properly and it should have withstand most abuse by the shipping company, but one word of advice....Take the tubes out before you ship. (not sure if you did, but it didn't look like it.) I recently got a tube head from Guitar Center in Texas.(I Live in Los Angeles), I was scared of something similar happening, but I guess I got lucky. Hope it all works out for you bro.

I have probably shipped over 30 amps and I have never pulled the tubes out. Have never had a problem (*knock on wood*) If it's packed well enough it should survive if the carrier doesn't abuse the shit out of the box. Even all manufacturers ship this way. In this case however it looks like UPS just threw the box around or ran it over with the truck.

Beat me to it...I'd actually prefer a shipper leave them in.

I have a buddy who is a shift manager at a UPS hub in Minneapolis. He is also a guitar played and says he would NEVER ship anything big heavy and expensive threw UPS. Also he's stated say that pakages fall off conveyor belts ALOT. Sometimes falling more than 10 feet, which is what looks like happed to yours. I think someone should start a company that is disigned to ship musical instruments and other high-end breakable expensive items. It only makes sense because these high volume companies aren't going anywhere cause they have made it in the commercial world and don't give a shit about there reputation anymore. It's a sad sad truth that us gear flippers have to face.
I don't know WTF happend to that amp it is a mystery. Looks like Hulk Hogan did an elbow drop from about 10 ft. on that sucker, and the box is barely damaged. Seriously WTF!!

exactly..this is whats wrong with business in america. these dudes are phoning it in. They have reached a level where it just doesnt matter anymore. We need more competition here. Its what creates a balance. Im looking into DHL right now. Maybe they will show a little common decency and better yet, professionalism.
