Definitely negligence of some type. Have a look at what USPS did to a POD I bought off another forum. This thing is metal and obviously got speared by a fork lift or something. They told me unless it was insured I was SOL. Pretty sad that you pay a company to 'do what they do' and if they fuck it up they are not responsible. If my company fucks up a clients job, they are no longer a client.

I don't even know how that is possible, you would have to intentionally slam it on the ground to have it break like that. It's like they played football with the package.

That shit looks to wierd!!!No headshell damage at least from the photo and wtf hit that in that exact spot to do the faceplace damage Thats not right!!!

Look guys, I know that anything is possible, but I've been dealing with this guy and it just doesn't seem in character for him. While I don't know him personally, he has been extremely cool through this whole thing, admitted I was not at fault and that it had been packed properly, etc, etc, etc. I just don't think this is what happened... I know it looks weird, but I believe he received it this way...

It's bizarre but definitely possible. The perfect storm of UPS fuck-ups. This must have been a very high drop down on the corner with the power transformer. Either that or the UPS truck was going about 80 mph and the guy slammed on the brakes and the amp went flying around the cargo hold. The bow on the front panel shows the direction that it was going I believe. I would think that the trannie mounts are fucked up and possibly the chassis bolt holes too?

I'm not seeing how this happened with the chassis in the head box and the headbox looks mint still. It didn't happen form the mass of the transformers. If it was from a drop I would expect to see more broken tubes. The top of the chassis looks flat still. I've seen plenty of dropped amps and the transformers mounts bend, chassis top gets bent, transformers ripped off. This one is very odd.

I have had several friends that have worked at UPS .... They told me it is common for boxes to be throw off a 20 foot high pile onto cement.

I have to agree that it looks unlikely the damage to the chassis happened while it was in the head-box. At first I thought it looked like where the fork on a skid-steer might have dented the chassis. What doesn't look right is that the tolex at that part of the head-box is pristine. Looks odd. But you never know with stuff that gets dropped. On the other hand, if the chassis was out of the shell when it got dropped, it likely wouldn't go back in. Who knows? Does sound nice though.

Hey guys, I'm Ron, the guy who bought the amp from Steve. I post pretty regularly here but didn't catch this thread until now.

I sincerely hope I haven't given anyone the impression that I'm the sort who would falsify damage like this. That honestly kills me, especially coming from Mark of whom I've been a huge fan of for years now from time over at the Metro forum.

Anyway, the damage is for sure from drop shock inside the headshell as the chassis buckled UP from the weight of the trannys - meaning it was flipped onto its back. This also accounts for the EL34 being smashed as it was jammed into the transformer.

I can't think of a way to drop this thing outside of the headshell, deforming the chassis in the process, while still maintaining the integrity of the mounting points.

The amp is special, and I bought it for sentimental reasons...I owned a real '68 not far from 12301. I sold it in '90 while supporting my record and have always regretted that.

Again, I am sorry I might have given anyone the idea I would fake damage to this amp. It is against everything I believe and stand for.

Wow, that really sucks! I refuse to ship with ups anymore, they are the absolute worst when it comes to shipping. I had them misplace two plexis on two different occasions, had guitars busted, Amps, etc. they suck! I prefer fed x any time over ups and would gladly pay the few bucks extra.

This is very cool and glad for you both....

The amp sounds amazing BTW. Seems only a cosmetic problem to deal with if you choose to do so. Maybe George would hook you up to get the amp back to 100%.
