then why would someone who is very successful in the music business agree with me? is everyone going to argue with him as well? ive owned the speakers, user opinion. it has been said that there were over 40+ different versions of this speaker in the late 70's-80's and there is no real way to know which is which.

take it for what it is worth and move on. i also said i would be willing to give the 65's another chance in the future due to the conal differences and insane changes they made over the years.

No they have less top, and a lot more lower mids. They are GREAT sounding speakers with the right amp. As glp80 says, they can be a little overwhelming in the mids if the amp is mid forward.

You're not going to try and get all logical on us are you? ;)

Hey, keep in mind, we all hear things differently. Some of us have preset, predisposed opinions based on whatever we allowed to be the determining factor in that opinion. There are some who just like to repeat what they've heard so they look knowledgeable, and there are others who have absolutely no first hand experience with stuff, yet they post an opinion.

You just can't get your panties in a bunch over it because just as you're entitled to your opinion, they're entitled to theirs. Whether either one is based on experience, facts or whatever is another matter to determine. You have to consider the source and their experience, right? I learned long ago that I don't know everything and that I've been wrong in the past, and will probably be wrong in the future, too.

That's why I don't comment on subjects like childbirth. Since I've never experienced it, I really don't think it's my place to tell a woman it shouldn't hurt that much, or how joyous it is.

So what if Jim agrees with you, that doesn't mean that mid focused amps can't sound great with 65's, which ever one you use. Jim also thinks V30's suck balls and i can get thousands of people who will disagree with him. How many albums are recorded with V30's again? ....a lot.

Who cares though, you don't like a speaker, ok, who cares, go use another speaker you do like, done! Are you going to lose sleep if someone uses a different speaker than you?

hell no im not going to loose sleep over it, but the nonsense comments telling me im full of shit are where i drew the line, i just know what i heard. nothing more nothing less

im willing to give the 65's a second chance because as Andy (OP) said, they do make great speakers and Dave has simillar results - but thanks to the conal explanation it gives a little history as to maybe why the old original ones i played do or do not sound like the new ones or maybe a little different. i wouldnt know about the new ones - i havent played any. coming into this topic i thought a G12-65 only had two different cones, not 40+ different versions

i also like V30 type of speakers. and others as well. this is a forum where we share experiences and i was only doing so :)

no harm no foul

Well, actually I think V30's have their place, Steve Stevens uses them in cabs he got from me, and he says they sound much better in my cabs than his old Marshall JCM 800 cabs. For the right tone/application, V30's work. They just don't work for me MOST of the time, and it's my clients that say they suck balls. I just say they can have an annoying upper mid peak for some users, so let's not go too deep into the "Jim says ....." stuff, Ok, danyeo? In point of fact, it was johnnyjellybean that agreed with him, not me.

And for the record, I used my Randall RG-80 and Marshall JCM 800 50w with two G12-65's and two Eminence 12's in a Carvin cab back 29 years ago and they didn't suck at all.

I think some of you get a little over the top here on your posts while trying to make a point. Maybe it's time to step back from the keyboard for a minute and take a breath.

I have a JCM 800 2204 and a Marshal cab loaded with 65's and they sound awesome.
