K88 (80w) on the left boosted with TS9

Snott (7w) on the right boosted with TS9

The song is by Olas band Feared. Check em out. I just used some DIs from him and wanted to see how the SW and K88 handled eachother in a mix. This is what came out. ;)

Sadly they were just DIs so I can't take credit over playing.

Wish it was me...but I don't have the time.

Great tone on the guitars.
Thick, full, and smooth.
Very pissed off cutting tone.
Please list everything used in this recording.
I'm not familiar with the snot...

Alright.

Well the Snott Watt is a amp made by Baron Custom Amps. It features his B60 preamp in a small 5-7w (switchable) package. It comes with two channels. Vintage and Modern. Vintage is good for your lower gain tones and feels very classic rock, blues. It can get very clean but remember the amp is only 7w max so you'll get some power tube distortion when cranked. This channel also features a bright switch. Modern is just how it sounds. It's modern heavy high gain. This channel features a bright switch as well but also has a Wet/Dry switch. Both channels have a shared EQ and shared volume control.

The amp also has a special line out function which makes this amp great and different. When you plug into the line out the amp switches to a 20w resistor and that is used as a speaker load, this way you don't need a cab or anything in the speaker jack when you are doing strictly line out recordings like I did here. The amp just sits on my desk and I play listen to it through my speakers and hear what the final results are instead of moving around a mic ect. This is absolutely perfect for recording at 1-2:30 in the morning or when I have to move out to an apartment soon as it is completely quiet. All I need is my headphones and I'm good to go.

As for tubes. The amp features three 12ax7s and one 12BH7 acting as a power amp tube.

Here's two quick pictures of it.

I'm using Sonar 8.5 and I used DI tracks and sent them to my ProRMP->TS9->ISP Decimator->Baron K88->Mesa Traditional 4x12->SM57.

For the Snott I sent the DI tracks to my ProRMP->TS9->ISP Decimator->Baron Snott Watt (Line Out)->Lexicon Lambda (Line In)->Sonar. I used keFIR as my Loader and I used lolzgregs Impulses/speaker simulator.

That sounded great! Dave from Baron is such a badass! He's totally under-rated and his amps are up there with the best of em. My next amp will hopefully be a Baron B120. :worship: If his amps were $2,500+ they would still be worth it, but at the price he charges they're a steal!

Wow ! I think I talked to the original developer of the Snot Watt a few years back( If it's the guy I'm thinking of he's from Elbing, Kansas , but sounds like Baron refined it considerably, the prototype only had 2 12aX7s and not as versatile, I remember the 12BH7 having a great sound as a push pull output section, and it has a Heyboer really high quality output transformer.

Are the direct sounds great into cab impulses or is there a Cab Sim on the Amp, and does it work for leads as well direct ?

Also sounds great on your Metal Track - can it do warm medium gain as well on the Modern Channel ?

Thanks - very impressive demo.

sounds great ..man ..

So whats the Next Baron Kyle??? lol

Yeah you just need to turn the gain down on the modern channel and turn the bright switch off. That switch is very responsive. There's no cab sim on the amp I used impulses for this mix.

^
Not sure but I always want another

Totally agree dude, his amps are amazingly versatile and great sounding for the price. Show me a 5-7w tube amp that can do that.

That's a mix with a little less bass since it was a bit overpowering.

The Snott Watt was developed by a friend of mine Carl Williams about 5 years ago, the original prototype was a clean channel amp and only 2 were ever built. The Carl decided he wanted a high gain version so he and I designed the amp from the ground up all over again. I designed and tweaked the preamp section while he designed the power section and OT. Carl with Heyboer redesigned an old vintage Wright transformer which Mojotone sells to the public as an OT for 12BH7's.

Unlike other 12BH7 amps, this one is 100% all tube and no solid state components.

Yes - from Elbing Kansas, he played that for me before on the phone and I loved the 12BH7-sort of EL34 sounding but really wide bandwidth of the output section which sounds like a BIG amp but I wished for more gain - which YOU now have achieved - congratulations to both of you and I will be contacting you about one of these soon !

I recognized the name Snot Watt and remember the special Heyboer output transformer ( even though I'm not a tech ) that he had made specifically for this tube .

A brilliant engineer coupled with a brilliant amp builder and - PUFF a brilliant amp.

So direct into Cab Impulses we don't need a variable presence that rolls off a little ultra high end so there's no fizz going to the cab impulses and we still can get the output tube and full transformer sound at line level with the load resistor/ direct out ?

Well congratulations to you and Carl- so glad you got high gain out of this- may be the greatest studio /recording amp ever!

With Carl's blessing I build them on request since I had a hand in the development.

How about a few more clips of this cool amp showing some medium and hi gain tones ?

Did a thread on it a while back.

This was a Reamp I did.

This was a cover I did. Ratt alert! ;)

As you can see the amp is the perfect desk recording device. ;)

I even have a cable sitting in the back for when I'm not using the line out. You can't plug in the speaker and line out at the same time. That cable goes all the way around the room into my Mesa 4x12.

Molten, I got mine for $650. Could be more or less for you as I got the Lexan panel and what not.
