And I tried using it to boost my JCM800 and plexi (level at 10, gain at 0), and hated it in every way shape and form. Then I read Yngwie puts the level and gain at 10 - man what a difference! Sounds very cool now, except I have to back off the gain on my amps because with that dimed and the pedal dimed, that's waaayyyy too much gain.

the old grey ones are not as gainy as the yellow ones, but I usually set my level at 2 oclock and gain at 12 on the grey, which is plenty of juice for me running noiseless single coils into a master volume marshall. more juice setting for the non-master, but not much more. doesn't that pedal just track amazingly? i love it, no compressing nor tone shaping, for leads its the bomb.

Speaking of the old grey DOD 250's, when did they became the most desirable pedal ever (I know the answer is "as soon as I wanted to buy one")! But seriously, wtf?

thats ridiculous. i bought mine for like 100 bucks in the 80's. wow. but IMO, the best American "True" Overdrive pedal and the most transparent. I don't prefer the yellow as much though. i've tried grey clones and yet they still don't match up to the original...its got to do with those original old components that u cant find anymore or hard to find. i wouldnt say its worth this kinda money though!

I love my BYOC250
I modded it with 3 toggles so I can do all kinds of combination of diodes for more versatility. It sounds great

Yeah man, I was digging it for shreddy stuff in particular. I didn't have much time to play with different settings but I'll give those a try, thanks!

What amp you using it with? Do you have time to explain the differences between the different diodes? TIA!

I use it with my Competition and Maz38.

Check out the BYOC forum, in the 250Plus section.
There is lots of info on the mods. I kind of did my own thing, but you can do a simpler mod with the easter egg holes on the board.
I also use different enclosures (i sell the ones from the kit on the BYOC forums)

Ridiculous how much those old ones are going for.

I would just buy an Analogman modded version.
