So long story short I've been looking all year for a trans-green wolfgang with an archtop. I'm beginning to think they're TOO rare - as in very little or none left at all.

I happened to run across this wolfgang instead:

It meets all of my specs that I'm looking for except for the color. I don't mind it, but it's not a trans-green. Should I hold out for the guitar color that I really want or jump on this?

Go ahead and jump.

Sorry couldn't resist. :D I like that color better than trans green anyway. Sweet looking guitar.

Simple. Start the collection with this amber guitar then follow it up with green.

I agree with above.
Having said that, I've been looking PV WGs lately (as I love mine and would like another). There's a Blue USA WG on reverb and a green non-USA on ThEbay. You've probably alrerady noticed those however.

It seems The PV WGs are becoming more and more expensive as time passes.

Yeah this one seems to pique my interests for some reason. It's a diamond in the rough for sure - it's seems to have been well taken care of and "collected". The dude's got a fair price on it for market value and for what it is, I can't say it's un-realistic.

I'll see if I can work something out with him. Hopefully it's not already sold.

I had a purple one many years ago and sold it to fund an ESP custom shop order

I had my reasons for selling it at the time - it needed a refret and was just a plane jane special - nothing crazy or spectacular. It was a players guitar, but swore the next time I owned one that it would be a custom deluxe/custom special model.

I'd not intended to buy another wolfgang after getting the next one - but who knows

I saw the green non-USA on ebay. Way overpriced for a non-archtop model not located within the USA.

I actually have a lead on a NOS, never been played, dark blue flame-top wolfgang back in my hometown. My buddy is going to follow through with that one for me and look at it in person to see if it really is NOS. It looks to be brand new never played, so we will see. Between the three colors, green, dark blue, and amber, I think I could take either of the blue or the amber without a problem honestly. I guess if I had to choose, I'd go Amber first and then blue

They were made to a higher quality than what fender is producing with the EVH brand these days. The fender models just feel like cheap toys in comparison - nowhere near the quality of the original peavey wolfgangs. I've been on the lookout for quite a long time and honestly, the peavey's are starting to show their age. There's not many that people have actually taken care of and looked after - many have had led a hard gigging life, body damage, necks need refrets, maple necks neglected with sticky crap, pick scratches in the paint, etc.

Thr fretboard looks highly figured, i would jump on this fast. The more pronounced the birdseye is, the more valuable it is.

This one looks sick man!!!!!

I would get it and send it to Lee Garver at GMW to have it refinished in the color you want.

I’d wait. It’s not what you want. Why settle? You’ll end up selling it and having to deal with all of the shipping and payments and the dreaded wait to see if it got damaged in shipping. Etc.

100% agree. A “compromise” guitar will always be exactly that, I’ve been down this road myself too many times. If you even have to ask the question on a guitar, I would say wait and continue to be patient. Almost every rare guitar I thought might never happen has eventually shown up, even if it took more like 2-3 years (or even longer).

Yeah herein lies the problem, the dude knows what he has and has priced it accordingly. This isn't exactly anywhere close to a steal, but it's priced fair. The guitar does look great but it's just another common colour option. I'm certainly not made of money and I had never planned on getting more than one wolfgang. I only really want a nice trans-green model with a great flame top and neck.

DUDE !!! Snag it !!! fuck it man, it may not be the color you want, but the resale on these guitars is good, and they almost always retain their value when buying used. worst case scenario, you don't like it and sell it. That amber color is actually the next one I want to buy, but I want to replace the pickups in it with some solid black ones to match the "not enough" video guitar. then I want a red one, and ill be happy

My green one just for the hell of it ...

So I found a very large red flag. I asked for pics of the back of the neck and noticed a very very heavy shimmer/shine. These necks are satin from the factory, I owned one in the past and know what they should look like. The sales ad described it as barely played. So one of two options exist: either someone used tung oil with a sealer on the neck by accident and has ruined the neck, or someone's lying about how many miles are on the neck/frets.

I asked him whether someone had used tung oil or linseed oil, and he claimed hand oils only. Yet I know for a fact to have a neck turn from satin to heavy shimmer with hand oils only, requires a shit ton of playing. For the kind of money involved I immediately told him not interested. 9.5/10 means 9.5/10. Someone's seriously fucked with that neck, or someone is lying about the fretwear

Yours is just beautiful :inlove:

I think I am going to hold off. Another option is to wait for the Peavey HP2 custom shop to open up, and order a trans green model from there. Right now they don't offer green in the HP2 series, but in a few years, they certainly could. That, or I find a green peavey on the internet used as you did.

Thanks for the help gents - going to wait this one out further and keep looking. Hopefully, I can find one.

Man that's a bummer. Sucks to find something you want then have it fall apart.
That green is gorgeous btw.

Here's my red!

Maybe it's for the best then, that's strange about the neck. I just tried to find an angle that my raw necks look glossy and could not find one. But my Tru Oil finished neck can look shimmery at certain angles so good catch by you.

I feel ya tho, I just drove across town with cash in hand to buy a mint CS Charvel and was pumped...until I played it. Tiny neck and dead as hell.

Hmmm, all my raw necked Wolfgangs, i go with a 4000 grit sponge paper and orange oil. Damn, they become smooth and feels soooo broken in. Everybody that plays them goes nuts on the feel.

Speeds up the process of hundreds of hours of playing.
