I was looking for a portable practice solution that would allow me to jam along with tracks, youtube, and plug into a mixer/amp. iRig 2 seemed to meet all of these requirements. I also downloaded Positive Grid Bias and JamUp. So far, my two favorite patches so far are a Bogner Ecstacy 101B with some delay and a Fender Bassman with a tube screamer and some reverb… both are really nice for leads.

I’m still working on tweaking my settings, but it’s pretty fun so far. I don’t think I’ll ever go nuts with all of the crazy configurations you can do because it sounds great.

For example, one of my favorite lead tones ever is from Steve Vai on the song For the Love of God. The Bogner 101B setting with delay pretty much nails it. I’ve never heard any other modeler sound so close to the original tone on that song.

So for a total of $45($40 for iRig 2 and $5 for Bias), I got a great little setup.

Pretty fun stuff.

Anyone else use it?

I have the original iRig and it's alright. I have the slash expansion and the 4 track add on but haven't played with it much. I couldn't seem to get much volume out of mine.

I have the original iRig but it won't work with my 4s anymore, after the last update. Kind of sucks because it was very useful.

I got it for my Ipad a few weeks ago. Had some bugs with it at first, seems to get a lot of feedback when I try to get any volume out of it. using bias fx sounds good for what it is.

I used it for about a year before I got some other stuff. It's really decent for what it is, sounds a lot better than the $5 price tag and the convenience of being able to do it on your phone/iPad is awesome.

Check out Ampkit as well, the Peavey 6505 stuff was awesome.

I had the ampkit for a bit. Then it died. Haven't looked back

I use Bias/Jamup with the Apogee Jam.

Sounds incredible for what it is. I bought a pack a long time ago with the Ola/Merrow amps and I've downloaded some free ones on the cloud.

I used it with a .44 magnum pedal into a 4x12 and I swear it sounds great. I really couldn't believe it and that is very good for band practice or even for a live backup.

I'm curious about the irig. Haven't checked it out yet but I'm going to read up on it. Looks like it connects with the 1/8" to your phone!! That is really great.

The problem I have with the apogee is that you need a special lightning cable for it and the iPhone and mine now has a short in it so it's really not even usable at this point. It looks like the Lightning cable alone is the same price as the irig so I think I may have to get this irig.

I can still use headphones though with Bias. Off topic but I've been looking to get a preamp pedal to go with the 44 magnum as a backup and looking at that BE100 and/or a couple others.

Got an iRig2 just before Christmas when they were on sale for $29. I've been pretty happy with it. Use it with Amplitube and jam along with tunes on YouTube. Works great for that. Nice to just grab the iPad or phone and some headphones and jam out on the couch rather than setting up an amp, etc at times. Going to have to check out Bias and see what it's like. Def cool to jam with for very little cost.
