...And I'm not really sure I like it.

I'm using various guitars -> TS-9 -> Framus Dragon -> Cab
I already had the matching Framus Dragon 412 (V30's) and now got the VHT Deliverance 212 cab to compare.
For palm mute-rhythm riffs it sounds great. Tighter and more clear than the Framus cab and generally appears to handle the high gain stuff better.

However, when playing single notes on the higher strings there seems to be a sizzle/roughness in the highs, which I don't care for at all.
I tried different guitars, but that didn't help.
Anyone else experience this with a Deliverance cab?

Also, the difference between the cabs isn't entirely what I expected going by clips/youtube.
I'd record a sample of the difference, but I don't think the mic in my phone would do the sound justice.
Maybe I should check if there are actually P50-E speakers in the VHT cab, as I bought it used :gethim:

Bottom line: I like the VHT cab for rhythm guitar, but the Framus cab for leads.
So.. Might it be possible to combine both in one cab?
If so, what cab would that be?

Is it a new cab? I've heard similar complaints before the speakers are broken in.

I don't exactly know it's age, but I bought it used and it had a VHT logo on it..
So it should at least be 4-5 years old. Don't know how much use it has seen, but I'd guess that the speakers should be broken in by now.

Also: I don't have much experience dismantling speaker cabinets. I currently have the front panel of, as the backside seems closed.
I suppose if i unscrew the speaker I can take it out and check the backside of it to see what it is?
Or can I simply take the back of the cab off (and if so, how?)

Sounds like a front-loaded cab. If so, you can't take the back off. Front-loaded cabs tend to be more "forward" and "focused" sounding—more directional and beamy. That could be part of it.

Tighten the speaker's screws

That.
Also, try tightening one side with a good bit more torque than the other.
You may have some "cone cry" going on. Play notes on the B and high E string around the 12th fret.
If you notice some odd frequencies it may be cone cry. If so, try tightening one side more than the other as it will flex the speaker cone and hopefully decrease or remove the odd tones. If you need more flex than what the screws alone can give, then try a washer or two under the speaker frame at the mounting holes on one side, crank down the other side screws, that should give you more flex if needed.

If that doesn't help, then it just may be the speakers tone you don't like.

Also try it with a vht amp....biggest factor!
This!

I ran a D212 for a couple years with my Delicerance 120 and Sig:X. Great cab.

If you bought it from Guitar Center that cab has been bought and returned a few times. Could be a dud.

I'd like to give a VHT cab a shot. I just bought a CL100 and its incredible!

Common complaint of the P50Es. They need a LOT of breakin time, then they're fine. That's a great cab, and hard to find. It'll get better with time.

I guess I need to revise my opinion on the D212 cab.. Tried it with a different amp and now I love it :inlove:
I found a great deal on an ENGL Savage 120 and bought it.

The first few days I only played it on the D212 cab. Thought I'd try it on the Framus 412 today and was really underwhelmed.
Might be that the D212 grew on me, or that the Savage just likes this cab better than the Dragon.
That weird frequency I used to hear also isn't as apparent as it was before. I doubt it has something to do with breaking the speakers in, cause I only played it at moderate bedroom volumes.
Maybe my ears just got used to it.

Anyhow, I finally made up my mind on which cab I'm gone keep. The Savage through the deliverance cab is just plain brutal

sometimes the frequencies a specific amp accentuates just dont "go" with those frequencies specific speakers highlight....cool thing that you found your cab useful

Fryette cabs are trash. Send it to me and I'll dispose of it properly. ;)
