So, I had the 2150 all the way open today. (pics)

It turns out, the 5w 1K resistor all the way to the left was measuring 150K.

I replaced it. (as seen in the pic) Everything measure fine now.

Amp seems to be working better.

BUT.............the side that didn't have problems, is now having a bias problem. It goes up, up and away. Time to step away from the bench.

maybe i missed something, but was it acting up and that's how you spotted the trouble? Hope you get it all resolved

Cool to see her guts.
Sucks - more problems.

Yeah, but, at least I know exactly how to open it back up ASAP.

the tech forum at TGP is super helpful.

I know what to check now in the bias circuit.

I saw some of that at TGP.

I must say some of the guys on the forums are more than cool about help.

Nice! Good to see some gear porn every once in a while, Gene! Nice pics of your VHT preamp in the other thread too...
Send it to Steve and get it served with best care. Are you afraid that Steve would put in a huge friggin' Fryette sticker or a logo of some kind over the VHT logo? :D Now that we're at it you know I have to ask about the possible changed Fish dates? Good stuff, Gene.

1. Steve wouldn't give the local tech a schematic.
2. The local tech didn't catch that bad resistor.
3. Local tech charged me an arm and a leg, and it wasn't totally fixed
3. I don't want to spend $75 shipping + $300 labor + $75 shipping to send it to CA, when I can replace a resistor or cap myself.
4. I've built two amps. I have a good soldering station. I know how to drain caps. Why shouldn't I do this myself???

Fish dates: I'm supposed to receive a call from Rudy's this week.

Shit, didn't know you had been soldering and building amps that much! :D I really do hope that you'll get the call from Rudy's and receive the product this week but remember that there can't be no excuses for not making clips when you get the Fish. :gethim: Your local tech sucks, btw. :gethim:

I have a blue 2150. I've been modding amps and pedals for a while and have all the test gear and tools (experience etc). Looking for a schematic. Trouble shoot some popping and crackling on one side. Ruled out bad tubes. I'm thinking one of the caps or resistors is going faulty. Need to disassemble this beast. Fryette never responded. Let me know if you can walk me thru safe way to take this apart. Thanks in Advance. - Crunch

Not to interrupt, but it looks like the last time guitarslinger posted was exactly once in 2020, and before that, 2011. This thread was made in 2008.

Welcome to the forums! :D Fryette is notoriously terrible about responding to requests for help. You'll probably be better off posting a new thread about that issue to get the most visibility.

How do these threads get bumped? I’ve searched for stuff and it doesn’t go back that far

oh this brings back such good times!!! The shanty town genesis lol

If I remember right, Gene's 2150 has basically become a doorstop at this point. I get not wanting to ship that massive beast but he probably should just bite the bullet and do it

Thanks for the welcome TGG! Yep I googled for VHT 2150 schematics and eventually came across Gene's post. I saw the dates and figured he might have dropped off. Still, figured it was a shot. I was reluctant to just start pulling screws from the board to dig in. Since he shows it up and out of the chassis I figured that's what he did. I may try to trace out and document this circuit if I do. Can only help for future or if someone else needs to work on similar model.

There's a few of us here that own these big boys,or the 2100 classic. Any schematics would be very helpful for us.

I had 2150 from the late 80’s. It had a little plastic figure with a Mohawk squatting on the board.
