So I played through a good ol' 1960B cab at a gig last night

Loaded with G1275Ts. I hadn't played through those speakers in a looooong time as I usually have my own cabs but this being SXSW week and all, most shows have cabs provided. I plugged in and holy fuck, did the Pumpkin sound badass through that cab. It was awesome. Got shitloads of comments on the tone, too. I may have to revisit those speakers again!

So the tone wasn't compromised by the plastic handles, mdf backboard, or the much maligned GT-75's?

mmmmmmmm......... pumpkin :D :D
that amp cannot sound bad.. your test is invalid
:poke:

75s are great speakers. They get a bad rap, but with the right amp they sound amazing. The silver jubilee cabs had 75s and they sound F'n great!

Agreed.....I've got 15 years on mine, since I got it with my 2203, and still sounding amazing!

They are hit or miss. I play at a studio that has 16 of the 75t cabs and most of them will more then likely reaffirm your opinion of the 75 watters. There are only 2 cabs in that studio with them loaded in them that sound good.....Great actually.

So tired of that argument.

If Bogner or Diezel all of a sudden made their cabs out of MDF because of a new found awesome sonic property or something, then it would be all the rage but Marshall makes one piece out of it and their cabs suck and could never sound any good.

Shit, this here post will stir up some crap I'm sure. :D

Hey Jason, did you have to bump up the mids any? For what its worth I love my 1960

Lol...yeah the same thing happened to me several years back. Honestly I quit worrying having to have the next best thing in cabs since that time. Marshalls do just fine.

+1

Marshall's sound great to me. Of course 3 of mine are vintage checkerboard cabs with Greenbacks, but whatever.

Yes sir, I did bump 'em up a tad bit but not a whole lot. The bottom was soooooo freaking tight. Sounded great to me on stage.

For me, it's all about the pairing. Some amps "like" some speakers better than others. All about finding the right pairing...

Its all right tool for he job isn't it. I experienced 75's recently being the x factor in making a Mesa I'd previously written off sound amazing. A ceramic pickup helped but those 75's sounded night and day better than the V30 Mesa cab next to the 1960.

I think 75's have fallen victim to the internet hype/bash machine, haha. I had a 1960B with 75's for a long time, sounded great. My band mate uses one now, and it sounds great too. Like Jason mentioned, you may have to re-EQ a little, but they are very tight cabs. Work well with 7 strings, too. Actually, Nevermore's "Dead Heart in a Dead World" album and Meshuggah's "Destroy Erase Improve" and "Chaosphere" albums we're all Rectos into Marshall cabs with 75's.
